USC Trojan Football: 2013 Recruiting Targets Still Available
Before we get started on this list, let's be clear on one thing.
At this point, most, if not all, recruits are still available for this recruiting class.
Even those who have given verbal commitments to teams may change their minds before they sign on the dotted line next February.
Now that we have that out of the way, this list of 2013 prospects represents the third in an ongoing series of articles and slide shows that represents the Trojans "wish list" for the upcoming class of recruits.
Let's take a look at some prospective Trojans and how they fit into the team's plans.
Mackensie Alexander (Cornerback)
1 of 7Mackensie Alexander is an exceptional athlete who plays the corner position tough against both the pass and the run.
Rated a 4-star prospect by Scout.com, Alexander blends good size (5'11", 185 lbs) and speed (4.50 forty) to go along with outstanding technique.
Alexander hails from Immokalee, FL and also has a twin brother who is a prospect.
Alexander also plays tailback, and that versatility would be attractive to the Trojans, who continue to be scholarship-challenged thanks to NCAA sanctions. However, cornerback is where he excels and would be tried first.
Alexander holds scholarship offers from most of the national powers, including Ohio State, Alabama and Florida, and calls them all even in terms of his interest.
Kylie Fitts (Defensive End)
2 of 7Kylie Fitts is an interesting player who is rising rapidly on recruiting services charts.
As a defensive end, Fitts is an extraordinarily tenacious player who never takes a play off and doesn't stop until the whistle blows.
Possessing good size at 6'4" and 245 lbs, Fitts has the frame to grow at the next level and with his dedication to his craft, should have no trouble doing so.
Perhaps the best news for Trojan fans is that Fitts has already tabbed USC as one of the schools that he will visit in making his decision as to where he will attend college.
Better yet for USC fans, the Redlands, CA prospect has already camped with the Trojans, so he knows what they have to offer.
A 4-star prospect as rated by Scout.com, Fitts holds over a dozen offers and calls them all even interest-wise.
Chris Hawkins (Cornerback)
3 of 7Another cornerback the Trojans are high on is Chris Hawkins from Rancho Cucamonga, Ca.
And the good news for Trojan fans is that, for Hawkins, the feeling is mutual.
A 4-star prospect according to Scout.com, Hawkins is technically sound and has the frame (6'0", 170 lbs) to pack on weight at the next level.
While he holds over two dozen offers, including those from powerhouses such as Notre Dame and Oklahoma, it looks like a two-way race between USC and Stanford for his services.
Greg Bryant (Running Back)
4 of 7One of the Trojans' main focuses as they go forward is to replenish the running back position.
And one of the prep stars they have their sights set on is Greg Bryant from Delray Beach, FL.
Bryant has good size (5'10", 190 lbs), and while he may not possess premier speed (4.56 forty), he has the power to run inside and can break off an occasional long run.
Rated a 4-star prospect by Scout.com, Bryant holds offers from a ton of programs, including most in the SEC, and lists them all as even on his dance card.
E.J. Levenberry (Outside Linebacker)
5 of 7Although the Trojans have a stable of fine, young linebackers right now, they still have to consider the future and in doing so, it is easy to see why they would offer E.J. Levenberry from Woodbridge, VA.
Levenberry's strengths are his sideline-to-sideline pursuit abilities and an uncanny nose for the ball.
He already possesses a college-size body at 6'3" and 220 lbs, and will only get better at the next level.
Unfortunately for USC, Levenberry appears to have his sights set on other programs, as he is high on Tennessee, Oklahoma and Florida State.
Alex Anzalone (Linebacker)
6 of 7Another prep linebacker shooting up the charts is linebacker Alex Anzalone from Wyomissing, PA.
Anzalone is another of those prototypical athletes whose size (6'3", 220 lbs) and nose for the ball make him a natural for the position.
Holding over three dozen offers, the Scout.com 4-star prospect calls them all "medium" in terms of his interest.
Conclusion
7 of 7That will do it for this installment of prospective future Trojans.
As stated in the introduction slide, we are still very early in the recruiting process, and there will be tons of movement as time goes on.
Still, it is now when relationships are cemented, and for recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron and head coach Lane Kiffin, these early offers represent those prep players the Trojans are most high on.
Nothing is for certain with these youngsters until their signatures are on the letters of intent, but in the meantime, USC will continue to do their homework and offer those players that fit their needs.
A lot can happen between now and signing day, and that's the only thing Trojan fans can count on.
