Oklahoma Football 2012: Latest News, Updates and More from Spring Practice
Oklahoma had a disappointing season last year, as they opened up the year as the favorites to win it all but ended up finishing with a 10-3 record.
This season, they have revenge on their mind as they return a total of 15 starters and bring in an extremely talented recruiting class.
The Sooners didn't lose much on either side of the ball—particularly on the offense that averaged almost 40 points per game. The defensive side of the ball is filled with upperclassman and should be an improved unit from last year's squad.
This is another solid Oklahoma team on paper, but the spring provides them a chance to answer any questions they may have. The Sooners have already begun spring practice as they prepare for the spring game that takes place on April 14.

Trey Metoyer Standing out
1 of 3Trey Metoyer is a 5-star recruit from the 2011 class, but didn't see the field with all of that talent the Sooners had. Now that they lost a few key players on the offensive side of the ball like Ryan Broyles, he is finally able to show what he can do.
"He's like a human vacuum cleaner," OU wide receivers coach Jay Norvell said.
"He's got great ball skills. He's got a good feel like Kenny did (in 2011 when Stills was a freshman), but he's a little different guy. He's bigger and stronger and that's been good to see translate into our offense."
Metoyer is a big, physical receiver at 6'2", 200-pounds and is an absolute beast when going up for the football. He'll make one-handed catches look easy and should provide the Oklahoma offense with several big plays this year.
Filling in the shoes of Ryan Broyles may be nearly impossible, but Metoyer should make enough of an impact to where it's a lot easier to move on.
March 19 Updates
2 of 3Before the Sooners headed for spring break, they knocked out their best practice to date and took a lot of positives from it. One of the things that impressed the coaches the most was the defense, as they played extremely well in the first scrimmage.
"We're basically trying to teach fundamentals, teach discipline within our responsibility and play an aggressive style of defense, Stoops said. I thought we tackled well for the foremost for the first live scrimmage. That tells me we have good athletes, guys that can play in space. We had decent position on the football. But I thought they ran the ball better on us (Thursday) than they have all spring. That's a concern, we have to look and see where we were losing leverage. They had a couple of big runs. But I don't think we gave up any big throws. A goal of ours all training camp has been to have better position on the football. We gave up way too many deep balls a year ago. That's what we're really conscious of.
"
With tight end James Hanna no longer on the roster, the Sooners must find a starter, and as of right now that appears to be Brennan Green who is a 6'4", community college transfer. He's even impressing some of his teammates on the field.
“I think he's a great player,” said fullback Trey Millard. “He's made some huge plays. I think you guys (in the media) are going to have some fun with him ... He's a pretty chill guy.”
Another position that appears to have an official starter is free safety with Tony Jefferson locking that up. He's arguably the most talented and versatile defender on the team, and Stoops believes that he would fit best at that position.
“That's where we feel we can utilize his abilities, his strengths,” Stoops said. “Tony is a very, very talented player. He can be good anywhere he plays. He's very easy to coach. He's very instinctual. And he's a tremendous tackler.”
