Do You Believe In Magic?
As an Orlando resident I must say it is a great feeling to see the Orlando Magic have such a great season thus far.
Currently standing at 31-8, the Orlando Magic rank second in the Eastern Conference, a half-game ahead of the Boston Celtics and a half-game behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. They have the best road record in the NBA with 15 wins and five losses and are on a five-game win streak.
Last night the Orlando Magic broke an NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single game with 23 3PTM (69 total points), ending the game with 139 points.
To add, Dwight Howard was recently named NBA Player of the Week averaging a ridiculous 20.6 PPG, 14.8 RPG, 1.6 BPG, 1.8 SPG, and 69.2 FG% from the field. If the Magic continue to win at the rate that they are playing, Dwight could easily win his first MVP award this season.
After all the talk about Jameer Nelson not being a good enough point-guard to take the Magic to the playoffs, Nelson is averaging career highs in points (16.59), steals (1.3), FT% (88.1%), FG% (50.8%), 3P% (45.8%), minutes (31.4), and is currently on pace to drop 136 three-pointers (70 3PTM is his career high).
Rashard Lewis is leading the league in 3PTM with 114 and is on pace for a career-high 239 3PTM.
Rookie Courtney Lee was recently placed in the starting line-up in replace of the injured Mickael Pietrus and is starting to make a name for himself as not only an outstanding shooter but a solid defender as well.
Hedo Turkoglu is proving that last season was not a fluke averaging almost 17 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.8 APG, and 67 3PTM in 38 games this season.
J.J. Reddick is turning on the heat with 15 3PTM in his last five games averaging 12.2 PPG in 22.6 minutes of play.
The Magic have a ton of offensive and defensive weapons on their team and are looking more like a first place seed team each and every game, certainly raising eyebrows all around the NBA.
They've beaten powerful teams like the Hornets, Spurs (two times), Blazers, Jazz (without Dwight), and the Lakers. With a little more than half a season left to play, the Magic have a bright future ahead of them and have a chance to go all the way this season.
