Cincinnati Reds: 5 Classic Reds Deserving of a Bobblehead

Scott L. HutchinsonJun 1, 2018

When Major League Baseball players call it quits, they can only hope to be remembered by the fans who once watched them play.

Call me crazy, but what better way to be remembered than with a personalized MLB bobblehead?

Here's a look at five classic Reds who deserve to be immortalized as bobblehead dolls.

5) Pokey Reese

1 of 5

So, you think Brandon Phillips has swagger?

Second basemen Pokey Reese, who played for Cincinnati from 1997-2001, had swag before swag was even a thing.

With his rolled-up pant legs, tilted hat and blown-out afro, Reese became one of the most recognizable and beloved Reds of the late '90s, but, unfortunately, he was never honored with a bobblehead.

Sure, his on-field numbers were nothing to gawk at, but who wouldn't want a swagged-out Reese doll on their desktop?

I'll take two, please.

4) Ryan Freel

From 2003-2008, Ryan Freel won the hearts of Reds fans with his scrappy play, electrifying catches and—let's face it—his small stature.

He was almost always the smallest guy on the field, but the 5'9", 180-pound center fielder was almost always the hardest working as well.

While he has since left Cincinnati and hasn't played in the MLB since 2009, Freel certainly left his mark on the Reds franchise.

Maybe the guys at the bobblehead plant could smear some dirt on each Freel doll before packaging.

Just an idea.

3) Jason LaRue

Jason LaRue's major league career began when the Cincinnati Reds called him up in 1999 and ended when Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto kicked him in the head during a 2010 brawl between Cincinnati and the St. Louis Cardinals.

While he may have done the unthinkable in signing with the Cards after seven years with the Reds, LaRue still put in more than enough time in Cincy to earn some sort of recognition.

Why not a bobblehead?

He does have an awfully memorable goatee, after all.

2) Corky Miller

Just look at ol' Corky's picture and tell me he wouldn't make a great addition to your Reds bobblehead collection.

Miller has spent six years on the Cincinnati roster, and he's still going strong as the Reds' last resort at the catcher position.

While there actually was a Miller bobblehead in circulation several years ago, it failed to properly capture his trademark handlebar mustache—absolutely unacceptable.

The guy is an underground icon in Reds nation and deserves to be treated as such.

Bring back the Corky bobblehead!

1) Sean Casey

5 of 5

Sean Casey was the absolute MAN in Cincinnati from 1998-2005, as he not only put up impressive numbers but became a fan favorite as well.

While countless players have worn the Reds uniform over the years, few have truly enjoyed playing in Cincinnati as much as Casey did.

From his drawn-out batting rituals to his knack for chatting with opposing runners at first, everything about Casey was memorable, and everything was fun.

We've seen Casey bobbleheads in the past, but it's finally time for a resurgence.

Luckily, the Reds have already announced a Casey bobblehead giveaway for the 2012 season.
