NCAA Scores 2012: Big Winners That Are Surprisingly Bound for the Sweet 16
Several teams look poised to take part in the NCAA Tournament's second weekend after laying the wood on their opponents in Friday's second-round action.
The No. 7-seeded Florida Gators trounced the No. 10-seeded Virginia Cavaliers by 26 points and now look like a lock for the Sweet 16 after heavyweight Missouri fell to (place Cinderella-related adjective here) Norfolk State.
The even better news for Billy Donovan's Gators is that they only shot 4-of-26 from beyond the arc in their rout of Virginia, leaving the nation's top long-range team with plenty of room for improvement against the hot-shooting Norfolk State Spartans. Norfolk State shot better than 52 percent on three-pointers against Missouri, knocking in 10 total.

So which other Friday winners will join Florida in the Sweet 16? Take a look.
No. 12 South Florida (Midwest Region)
The South Florida Bulls are looking more and more like last season's VCU Rams. USF topped California in a first-round play-in game on Wednesday, and then came back to stun the No. 5-seeded Temple Owls late Friday night, winning convincingly by 14 points.
With their confidence likely growing after every win, the Bulls will enter their Sunday matchup with the No. 13-seeded Ohio Bobcats as the favorites. USF went 12-6 in the Big East this season and is a formidable squad regardless of what their seed would lead you to believe.
No. 11 North Carolina State (Midwest Region)
The Wolfpack are streaking at exactly the right time in March. NC State has won five of its last six games overall now after topping San Diego State on Friday, and can book a trip to St. Louis for the Sweet 16 with an upset victory over the No. 3-seeded Georgetown Hoyas.
The area of concern for the Hoyas will be scoring, where they rank just 145th in the country this season. Meanwhile, the surging Wolfpack ranks just outside the nation's top 50 in scoring, posting more than 73 points per game on average. NC State scored 79 on Friday, and has not scored less than 67 since mid-February.
No. 10 Xavier Musketeers (South Region)
After out-lasting Notre Dame on Friday night, the Xavier Musketeers look ready for a trip to Atlanta for the Sweet 16 next week. The No. 10 seed will face the surprising Lehigh Mountain Hawks, who stunned No. 2-seeded Duke 75-70, becoming the second No. 15 seed to win on Friday.
Lehigh is a talented bunch no doubt, but the type of energy and effort they put into Friday's titanic upset over the Blue Devils will be nearly impossible to recreate on Sunday. Xavier is the better team and will flex its muscles against the Patriot League's Hawks.
