NCAA Scores 2012: Top Seeds Who Should Be Terrified

Ryan RudnanskyMar 16, 2012

No matter how dominant you were in the regular season, the NCAA tournament has a way of exposing your flaws.

For some top seeds, their flaws grow larger as the tournament goes on. Before they know it, they've been ousted, wondering where it all went wrong.

Heading into the Round of 32, here are some top seeds who should be terrified as March Madness swarms around them.

3. Louisville (No. 4 Seed, West Region)

This is saying nothing about Louisville's performance so far. The Cardinals played solid ball against a potential Cinderella in Davidson in the Round of 64.

What I do worry about, though, is Louisville's schedule. Not only do the Cardinals play a battle-tested team in New Mexico that just held off dangerous Long Beach State, if they win they play No. 1 seed Michigan State.

New Mexico is one of my sleepers, getting stronger as the season wears on, and Michigan State has been simply dominant. The Spartans beat up on Wisconsin and surprised Ohio State in the Big Ten tournament.

Louisville has the defense and momentum to do something special this year, but I fear their schedule will be too much to overcome.

2. Baylor (No. 3 Seed, South Region)

I love Baylor's athleticism. Who doesn't?

But the fact of the matter is that the Bears should have blown No. 14 seed South Dakota out of the water in the Round of 64 and simply didn't.

The Bears have all the talent and athleticism in the world, but they lack focus at times, and that bothers me. They let South Dakota State hang around all game long and there were times the Jackrabbits simply wanted it more than them.

Baylor can get by with its athleticism and pure talent, and will probably beat No. 11 seed Colorado in the Round of 32, but I'm worried about them against a team like Duke in the Sweet 16.

1. Syracuse (No. 1 Seed, East Region)

If the Syracuse Orange weren't terrified headed into the tournament, they should be now.

After Fab Melo was declared ineligible before the tournament, Syracuse survived a scare against No. 16 seed UNC-Asheville in the Round of 64.

Melo was critical to the Orange all season long, the anchor in their 2-3 defense. With him absent, it changes the entire complexion of the team.

I expect Syracuse to lose to No. 8 seed Kansas State in the Round of 32. The Wildcats have more size than the Bulldogs had and are coming off an impressive performance in the Round of 64.
