South Region Game To Watch
No. 2 Duke vs. No. 15 Lehigh - 7:15 p.m. EST
Admittedly, this region is soft on Friday with only two games—this and the Notre Dame-Xavier matchup—but there is a lot to be intrigued by in this contest.
Duke should have little problem dispatching Lehigh. The Blue Devils have better athletes, more talent up and down the roster, and arguably the greatest coach of this generation.
But Lehigh boasts a strong offense that can spread the Duke defense out, which is where it has struggled this season. Plus, C.J. McCollum is a legitimate star at the guard position. He could probably play in the NBA right now if he wanted to.
West Region Game To Watch
No. 7 Florida vs. No 10 Virginia - 2:10 p.m. EST
The great mystery of this region is going to be figuring out which Florida team is going to show up. The Gators have a lot more talent than their No. 7 seed would suggest. Kenny Boynton can shoot the lights out and Erik Murphy is the best-kept secret on the roster.
But a late-season slide has put a damper on their tournament chances. Granted, three of their four losses came against Kentucky and Vanderbilt, but there is still no reason for a team this talented to lose like that.
Virginia is a good defensive team and will create problems for Florida's shooters by not giving them any room to work with.
This is going to come down to the wire, with the outcome being determined by the team that blinks first.
East Region Game To Watch
No. 3 Florida State vs. No. 14 St. Bonaventure
After an impressive run through the ACC tournament that saw them defeat Duke and North Carolina on consecutive days, the Seminoles are being talked about as the favorite in the East region thanks to Syracuse losing Fab Melo.
The Bonnies were not expected to be in the big dance, needing to win the A-10 conference tournament to assure a bid. Don't sleep on this team, though. Demitrius Conger and Andrew Nicholson are one of the most dynamic big-men duos in the country.
It will be interesting to see how the Seminoles react now that they have a bullseye on their back.
Midwest Region Game To Watch
No. 4 Michigan vs. No. 13 Ohio
Everyone loves an upset. We root for Cinderella in the NCAA tournament. Well, here is where we could see the biggest one, at least based on seeding.
Michigan is a unique team. It doesn't boast a lot of size or athleticism, yet managed to win 24 games in the Big Ten thanks to a strong defense that led to some high-percentage baskets for the offense.
Like the Wolverines, Ohio is not the most athletic team in the country. But what the Bobcats lack in flash, they make up for in size and muscle down low. Reggie Keely and Ivo Baltic present matchup problems for Michigan in this contest.
Expect a low-scoring affair, with the difference being the way Michigan is able to defend the Bobcats' two best big men.
