NCAA Bracket 2012: High Seeds on Upset Alert

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

Every one of these teams is seeded high enough to have National Championship dreams. But with no exceptions, they can all easily be sent packing on Friday without much imagination.

These squads need to be on their games. If that doesn't happen, many of you will have your brackets busted.

Kansas

In the NCAA Tournament, it's not always the best teams that win. No, the teams that get red hot are absolutely frightening, and that's exactly what Detroit is right now. After finishing only third in the Horizon League standings, the Titans got hot in the conference tournament, earning a spot in the Big Dance.

What is scary about them is that they have a lot of scorers.

Four active players brought in more than 10 points a night during the regular season, and that is an awful lot of balance.

Ultimately, Kansas will have too much going for it in terms of stars. Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor are both over 17 points a game. That will be too much for Detroit to overcome, but it will be a tough contest for the Jayhawks.

Georgetown

Something about this matchup doesn't look good to me. Belmont scores as well as anyone in the country, they pass at a high level and shoot at a good percentage. Those are three things that lead to upsets, and they all work in the Bruins' favor.

Also note that this is a team that narrowly lost to Duke earlier in the season, which is certainly enough to grab some attention.

Georgetown will have to rely an awful lot on Jason Clark, Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims. The Hoyas have a good record, but will struggle if the Bruins put up too many points in this one.

Defensively, those three will have to try to keep Belmont under 70. If they do, Georgetown will survive. Offensively, they need 50 points from the top three scorers. If that doesn't come, this is a game where an upset is likely.

Michigan

The problem with the Wolverines is that they rely on too many things to go well. There is no star player that will push things over the edge if problems emerge.

No player averages more than 15 points a game, nobody is at six rebounds and no one is at five assists. Granted, Ohio doesn't have that either; so, this is going to come down to who is on their game.

Look for a low scoring affair. That brings an upset into play because it places heavy emphasis on every possession. It won't take much to go wrong for the Wolverines to have a quick trip home.
