Why Nick Young Should Start for the Washington Wizards
Nick Young, a second-year player for the Washington Wizards, has shown he can score in the National Basketball Association.
He just needs more time on the court to do so.
Last year, Young received more playing time when three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas went down.
Young showed that he was going to be a competent player in the NBA. He took opponents off the dribble, made tough shots, and helped the Wizards win games.
Young has some defensive issues he needs to work on but he can score the ball. And in this league if you can score, people will overlook your defense (take Arenas as good example).
Over the last three games, Young has played his best basketball. He scored 28 points against the Chicago Bulls, and a couple of nights later, he scored a career-high 30 points against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Young went back and forth with All-Star Michael Redd. The two traded shots and battled all night. But in the end, Redd had the better team and a win—that's all that matters.
When DeShawn Stevenson decided to come off the bench after struggling, people got excited that Young would finally have an opportunity to play. Instead, "genius coach" Eddie Tapscott decided to go with second-year forward Dominic McGuire.
McGuire is an energy guy who plays terrific defense, but he is lacking on his offensive game—needing to work on his jump shot.
Whoever is the Wizards' coach next season, I hope there is realization that Young should be in the starting lineup—give the guy a shot.
I also hope that the new coach decides to start rookie center JaVale McGee. McGee is a guy that Tapscott has moved away from playing and clearly has something against the rookie center.
If Arenas ever comes back and becomes the same Arenas as before, he and Young will give Washington the best backcourt for years to come—dominating the entire NBA.
Young will be an All-Star in the near future. He just needs time to play and develop his talent.
