Dick Vitale Bracket: Breaking Down Vitale's Locks

Madison GuernseyJun 1, 2018

It's March Madness, baby! Which means everyone's favorite commentator Dick Vitale has filled out his annual bracket, and once again he has picked a No. 1 seed to win it all.

No one knows the game better than Dicky V, and here are my thoughts on his Final Four teams.

Kentucky

John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats earned the No. 1 overall seed in this year's tournament, and hope to reach the Final Four for a second straight year. Coach Cal's squad has been the best in the country for most of the season, and there isn't much to scoff at when it comes to their team.

Freshman Anthony Davis led the nation in blocks, averaging 4.6 per game, along with 14.3 points and 10 rebounds. He'll be a scary matchup for every team Kentucky will face, and can lead them to the title.

Complementing Davis, Kentucky also has marquee players like Darius Miller, Terrence Jones, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Doron Lamb to name a few.

Calipari has a great track record in March, but is yet to win that illusive national title. They've got a tough road to New Orleans, as they will potentially face Indiana, Duke/Baylor en route, but there's a lot to love about the Wildcats.

Missouri

The Missouri Tigers are arguably the best No. 2 seed in the tournament, and this year gives them the best chance to win a title. With seven seniors, notably Ricardo Ratliffe, Marcus Denmon and Kim English, Missouri fills it up from deep and possesses a strong post presence in Ratliffe.

They also have a fairly easy bracket. If all top seeds advance, Marquette and Michigan State would be their only true challenges.

With 30 wins thus far, Missouri looks promising as a Final Four squad.

How about the Seminoles. FSU defeated Duke and North Carolina twice a piece, including once each on their way to the ACC Tournament Championship.

Their superb defense has been a major key to success this season, and gives the 'Noles a great chance to improve upon their trip to the Sweet 16 last year.

The only risk with FSU is their streaky-ness.

During the season they went on tears, at one point winning 13 out of 15 games, highlighted by victories at Duke, and of course their 33 point route of the Tar Heels.

But they also lost to Princeton at home, and Boston College.

Assuming Florida State stays hot, they are legit Final Four and even national title contenders.

If all goes as planned, their toughest tests will be against Ohio State and a Fab Melo-less Syracuse.

My personal pick to win it all, UNC puts the ball through the net—averaging just a shade under 82 points a contest. Their five losses were all against NCAA Tournament teams, and they have one of the greatest coaches ever in Roy Williams.

Kendall Marshall and Harrison Barnes are future lottery picks, and the Heels also have freshmen Tyler Zeller and John Henson.

Georgetown/Kansas and Michigan are the toughest teams in their region, and there aren't many reasons to doubt the Tar Heels in March.
