College Football Recruiting 2013: Is Max Browne the Nation's No.1 QB?

Edwin WeathersbyMar 13, 2012

Max Browne, of Skyline High School in Washington, is considered by both Scout.com and Rivals to be the best and No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country for 2013.

There are several talented QB prospects, but it seems Browne could be the best of the bunch. For this read, I'm going to introduce you Browne, break him down, give you some schools to watch for in his recruitment and also name a couple QBs that could indeed fight for No. 1 signal-caller honors.

Let's get started.

Who Is Max Browne?

1 of 5

Browne is a top-tier QB prospect from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington. He's clearly the No.1 prospect in the Pac-Northwest and one of the top players in the country.

He's a decorated player, as he has numerous State Player of the Year, All-State and All-Seattle Times awards. Last year Browne tossed for over 4000 yards and 45 TDs.

He's boasts a remarkable 95:20 TD:INT ratio over the past two years. He'll likely get an invite and be one to watch at the Elite 11 this summer.

Max Browne Scouting Report

2 of 5

The first thing that impresses you about Browne is how he looks on the hoof. You see a tall 6'5", kid with a great looking frame, a bit lean at around 200 pounds, and you get interested.

Then you pop on the tape and you see a QB prospect with great mechanics. Browne has solid drop-back quickness, holds the bar ear-level when climbing from center, keeps his eyes down field and will go through his progressions.

Browne can set up at any mark, shows good balance and has a very quick and easy delivery and release. His arm strength is solid, as he can make every throw. He shows great ball placement, can change speeds and his overall accuracy is a plus.

Weaknesses

Browne's arm strength is good, but I would like to see him live. I think he's a got a strong arm, but it's not a shot gun, cannon, wow-type of arm.

But, honestly arm strength is not a deciding factor in determining a QB prospect's grade. He grades out well in many categories.

Also, Browne is a solid athlete, but he's not going to be confused as a dual threat-type anytime soon. I don't think he's as athletic or fleet as Jeff Driskel is.

What Schools Are in the Hunt?

Browne just came off a visit to Oklahoma, where things went very well. He spoke to Josh Heupel at length and also Bob Stoops.

Alabama also is heavily in the mix, as Tide offensive chief Doug Nussmeier is recruiting Browne very hard.

Other QBs That Could Be No .1...

5 of 5

Tyrone Swoopes is a 6'5", 220-pound dual threat QB from Texas. He's among the top prospects in the nation like Browne. Watch out for him, as he's committed to Texas.

Shane Morris pledged to Michigan as a sophomore, and the lefty is a 6'3", 185-pounder with a strong arm and good set-up quickness.

Other names include Ryan Burns, Cooper Bateman, Brice Ramsey, Kevin Olsen, Christian Hackenburg and Kohl Stewart.
