Printable NCAA Bracket 2012: Popular Upset Predictions You Must Avoid

Adam WellsMar 13, 2012

Upset predictions are all the rage at this stage of the NCAA tournament. Buyer beware, however, because not all of them are created equally.

When fans hear of a potential upset, their ears perk right up. They have to get on the gravy train, or else the bracket could be ruined. We have all been there.

The trick is to pick your spots. If you go with a bracket filled with nothing but upsets, you won't last very long.

Here are some of the trendy upset picks that you must avoid at all costs.

No. 11 Texas over No. 6 Cincinnati

The Longhorns had to fight their way into the tournament with a run to the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. That seems to be clouding the way they are being viewed, because they really aren't very good.

They're a volume scoring team that doesn't pass the ball well, though Cincinnati isn't exactly breaking any assist barriers either.

J'Covan Brown does not have a good handle for running the Longhorns' offense, and that puts more pressure on everyone else around him to hit shots when they touch the ball.

The Bearcats aren't an offensive juggernaut, but they play strong defense. They are fundamentally sound, grabbing rebounds and pushing the opposition to make contested shots.

It could be the first team to hit 60 wins the game. Expect the Bearcats to come out on top.

No. 12 VCU over No. 5 Wichita State

Since casual fans are not going to know much about either team this year, they will go based off what happened with VCU last year.

Doing that would be ignoring what Wichita State has accomplished this season. The Shockers have one of the best and most efficient offenses in the country, ranking in the top 30 in points, rebounds and field goal percentage per game.

Plus, they played a good schedule that included tournament teams like Alabama and UNLV, defeating the latter by 19 points.

VCU gets by with defense and a grind-it-out mentality. It worked to perfection last season, but this is a different year. Cinderella won't be dancing with the Rams this year.

No. 14 Belmont over No. 3 Georgetown

Everyone seems to be down on the Hoyas because they have not had much success in the NCAA tournament lately and their slow, plodding offensive style that bores opponents to death.

The Bruins are the exact opposite. They want to get out in transition, scoring quick baskets and keeping the defense on it's heels.

It is a matchup of the unstoppable force and immovable object, but in this case, the object is so much bigger and more physical than anything the force has gone up against.

Unless the Hoyas play one of their absolute worst games of the year, they will be too much for Belmont to handle.
