College Football Recruiting 2013: Breaking Down the Top OLs in the Rivals 100

Edwin WeathersbyMar 13, 2012

Last year, in regards to offensive linemen, we had a very strong year on the national front, especially out west. This year, I'm not so sure if there are as many cream-of-the-crop linemen such as an Andrus Peat or D.J. Humphries, but this year's class is pretty even matched.

As we move on in our series of breaking down the Rivals 100, we surely get to the offensive trench men today. I'm going to give you who Rivals feels are the elite OL prospects in this 2013 recruiting year.

I'm not blocking you from reading this, but these offensive linemen will block you from getting to the QB!

Nos. 11-13

1 of 11

13. Aaron Cochran

A 6'6", 320-pounder from California. Good size to play OT or OG.

12. Darius James

A 6'5", 319-pounder that has good feet, snap quickness and solid agility. One of the best in Texas.

11. Evan Lisle

An Ohio native, Lisle is a 6'6", 265-pound OL; I wonder if he can play OC?

10. Reeve Koehler

2 of 11

Koehler hails all the way from Hawaii, as Rivals lists him as the No. 67 overall prospect in he country. He's a 6'3", 280-pounder that I think factors best as an OG.

Koehler has solid athleticism in a phone booth, works each snap and will compete to be productive when uncovered. Don't rule out him playing DT, either.

9. Kyle Bosch

3 of 11

Bosch is a 6'5", 285-pounder from Illinois. Committed to Michigan, Bosch is an OT prospect that can play both sides of the line. He shows solid agility, balance and bend as a pass protector.

Against the run, Bosch will get after his opponent, attempt to jump on top at the snap and try to maul with strength. He should be a starter in Ann Arbor before he leaves.

8. Austin Golson

4 of 11

Florida State missed out on Andrus Peat last year, but with Golson, they got themselves a pretty similar player.

At 6'6", 275 pounds, Golson looks like a solid OT prospect thanks to good movement on the flanks. He can handle himself in space, has great foot quickness, mirrors well to shadow rushers and flashes snap quickness against the run.

7. Patrick Kugler

5 of 11

Here's my early pick for "nation's most nasty," as Kugler is a finisher. He's a 6'4", 270-pound OG prospect from Pennsylvania that will maul in the run game.

He's a drive blocker through and through and handles himself well in a phone booth. Kugler has been coached well, as evidenced by his college-ready technique.

Committed to Michigan.

6. Jake Raulerson

6 of 11

He's a Texan that stands a mere 6'4", 250 pounds. You ask yourself, "That's not big at all for an OL, why would he so high?"

Then you see Raulerson play OT and you see the knee bend, quick feet, balance, adjust ability and even the mean streak to finish in the run game. That's why Texas is giddy about him coming to Austin in 2013.

5. Steve Elmer

7 of 11

I really like Elmer as a prospect. He's from Michigan, stands 6'6", 305 pounds and has a wealth of talent in his skill set. He should be a solid OT in college.

Elmer has easy movement in his athleticism, can change and re-direct easily for such a large-bodied player and has the length and feet to be a great pass protector.

He's committed to Notre Dame.

4. Chris Fox

8 of 11

Fox may be the best offensive line prospect to come out of Colorado since Jeff Byers in the mid-2000s. He's an OG that stands 6'4" and weighs 285 pounds.

While he plays OT for his prep squad, his skill set shouts OG in college. He's at his best when engaged in a phone booth, will maul in a short area and is athletic enough to play LG for a front.

Committed to Michigan.

3. Ethan Pocic

9 of 11

He's an OT prospect from Illinois that can be a waist-bender at times, but if it's corrected, he can use simple, good agility and lateral quickness to play the flanks.

Pocic is committed to Notre Dame.

2. Kent Perkins

10 of 11

Perkins is a 6'5", 300-pound OT prospect that has great athletic ability, length and is sturdy puncher. He has some shock value at the point of attack, flashes a quick grab-and-stab and can mirror with ease when he's engaged.

Against the run, Perkins has snap quickness to jump on top of targets; he can seal, pin, down block, reach, combo and scoop block with ease. He'll hit moving targets on the second level and is productive in space.

Committed to Texas.

1. Laremy Tunsil

11 of 11

Raw in his technique, Tunsil does need to be coached up and seasoned. But his potential is limitless, as he shows the length, size, agility, athleticism, balance and foot quickness to man the LT position down the line in college.
