A New Era in Denver: Broncos Introduce Josh McDaniels; Mike Nolan to Follow

Sayre BedingerJan 12, 2009

The Denver Broncos introduced their newly hired head coach Josh McDaniels today at team headquarters in Englewood, CO.

McDaniels was all smiles as he answered questions and spoke of the direction the team would take in 2009.

"I'm excited and looking forward very much to the opportunity to lead this team," McDaniels said, "This is an opportunity that doesn't come along very often. I know I'm coming into a place where winning is the most important thing. That's been very clear to me during this process."

In watching the press conference, it was evident that this 32-year old man would ease the spirits of those Denver fans who thought a defensive minded coach was needed.

With the hiring, the Broncos made McDaniels the fifth youngest head coach in NFL history, which is sure to provide a spark to one of the youngest teams in the league. But, McDaniels will definitely have his doubters, and he is ready to face any challenge.

"My age has never been a factor, and it never will be a factor," McDaniels said. "It's about performance…It's about doing your job to the best of your ability and that's what I'm going to do."

It appears that McDaniels will also be bringing a little bit of former mentor Bill Belicheck's attitude along with him, which will be most welcome by all of the fans. In fact, he even went as far as to say that he will be wearing a hoodie on the sidelines in 2009, just like his former teacher.

"As a matter of fact, I can't wait to see my hoodie," he said.

Along with McDaniels, it appears, will come former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan, who will resume the duty of defensive coordinator.

Nolan was a part of Dan Reeves' defensive staff from 1987-92 and has already accepted an offer to become Denver's defensive coordinator once the contractual agreement is reached.

Along with a new defensive coordinator could come a new offensive coordinator as well.  Since McDaniels will be resuming all offensive control, current Broncos offensive coordinator Rick Dennison has begun looking for work elsewhere. A good candidate for Dennison's replacement would be quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates or former Broncos offensive lineman and current Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson.
