Ohio State Football: Andrew Sweat Wants to Play in the NFL
Former Ohio State linebacker Andrew Sweat participated in the Buckeyes' Pro Day last Friday, March 9 in front of NFL scouts representing every team except the New York Jets and Chicago Bears.
The second-team all-Big Ten Conference pick has been considered a huge stretch to be selected in April's draft due to his lack of pro speed and lingering injuries that plagued him throughout the 2011 season.
However, he may have helped his case.
Sweat's father, Gary, was told that his son ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds, but no official times have been recorded. If this is true, it may be enough to be taken in the sixth or seventh round, after being clocked at around 4.7 seconds in the past.
“I think I can play right up there with anyone,” Sweat said, according to the Columbus Dispatch. “People can watch the (game) film ... If I get drafted or picked up (as a free agent), awesome."
Sweat isn't relying on the NFL draft for a future career, though. He's smarter than that.
In fact, the three-time all-academic Big Ten honoree will graduate with an accounting and finance double major and has applied to law schools, with medical sales as another option.
“I think there’s always plan A, B and C,” Sweat said. “I’m that kind of guy. But plan A is definitely football.”
Sweat finished his career as a Buckeye with 113 tackles and three interceptions. He became a starter his junior year (2010).
