NCAA Bracket 2012: Projecting Biggest Blowouts in Round of 64

Ryan RudnanskyMar 13, 2012

Making it into the NCAA tournament is something to be proud of, but, let's face it, if you're a low seed, you're looking to shock the world.

Unfortunately, if you're a No. 16 seed battling a No. 1 seed in your respective region, those dreams of grandeur can go up in flames quickly.

Here's a look at my three biggest blowouts in the Round of 64.

Kentucky vs. Mississippi Valley State/Western Kentucky

I honestly don't care who ends up playing Kentucky, either foe will lose...and lose big.

Kentucky is the best team in college basketball this season, sporting the scoring, rebounding, defense and athleticism to dominate opponents regularly.

You may be looking at one of the better teams in years. I expected freshman Anthony Davis to be a star, but he's become one of the best players in college basketball in just his first season and intimidates opponents already.

The Wildcats may have just lost to Vanderbilt, but if anything that helped them. Now they know they're not invincible heading into the tournament. They are going to come out on fire.

Syracuse vs. UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville can score the basketball, so the Bulldogs have that going for them.

But what UNC Asheville can do, Syracuse can do better.

Syracuse has played great as a team this season, averaging 15.8 assists per game. The Orange also have an advantage in size and athleticism. They've used their athleticism and swarming defense to create plenty of turnovers this season.

UNC Asheville is also not a good rebounding team, so the Orange don't have to worry about that. This one will be over in a hurry.

Michigan State vs. LIU-Brooklyn

If you're looking for a massive upset, do not look here.

Long Island can score (81.9 points per game), but the Blackbirds play in the weak Northeast Conference and have nearly given up as many points on defense.

If the Blackbirds are allowing 77.3 points per game in the Northeast Conference, what's going to happen when they face No. 1 seed Michigan State?

Michigan State is a scary team right now under Tom Izzo. The Spartans have won 10 of their last 12 games in the Big Ten, including against Ohio State (twice) and Wisconsin (twice).

The Spartans can shoot with the best of them (72.3 points per game), rebound (38.2 rebounds per game) and they play excellent defense. Izzo's squad allowed just 58.7 points per game in 31 regular-season games, 13th in the nation, despite playing some top competition.

This could get ugly, folks.
