NCAA Tournament 2012: Picking the All-Name Team from Among the 68 Teams

Alex CallosJun 7, 2018

While we will not know for a few weeks who will make the all-NCAA Tournament team, once the selections came out, the all-name team was ripe for the picking.

With 68 teams, there are nearly 1,000 names to choose from and just as in years past, there are some crazy ones in this year's Big Dance.

These players have their parents to thank for not only their basketball talent, but their names as well.

Here is a starting five all-name team and a coach to go along with them.

Deuce Bello-Baylor

1 of 6

When said out loud the name Deuce Bello will make anybody think of Deuce Bigalow.

This freshman guard has seen his playing time increase in recent weeks for the Baylor Bears. As a freshman, he has a chance to be on the all-name team each of the next four seasons.

Bello averages a modest 3.3 points a game, but has a bright future for the Bears.

Deuce is not even his real name. Quddus Tosin Bello was his birth name.

Now, we can see why he goes by Deuce.

Vander Blue-Marquette

2 of 6

"You're my boy, Blue." How many times has Vander Blue undoubtedly heard that growing up?

Blue is the second guard on the all-name team.

He is a sophomore who has helped lead Marquette to national title contention.

At nearly nine points a game, Blue has some game and a name to go along with it.

Grandy Glaze-Saint Louis

3 of 6

The 6'6" Saint Louis forward has a name that sounds more like a tasty donut than a big-time basketball player.

Having been recruited by the rather plump Rick Majerus, one has to wonder whether or not the name or basketball talent attracted Majerus to Glaze.

As a freshman, Glaze has only played 29 minutes the entire season and likely will not see any action in the tournament.

The Canadian-born Glaze has a tasty name, but lacks on the game.

Dakota Slaughter-Alabama

4 of 6

The 6'6" freshman forward is a walk on from Fishers, Indiana.

He is yet to play this season and may not see much action in any of his four seasons at Alabama.

The redshirt may not even make the trip with the Crimson Tide, but nonetheless, he is still on the roster and a perfect fit for the all-name team.

The name sounds a little violent, but Slaughter seems like a good kid.

His name, however, could scare off anybody.

Hippolyte Tsafack-Memphis

5 of 6

Every team needs a big man, and at 6'8" Memphis' Hippolyte Tsafack rounds off the all-name team.

He is the fourth freshman to make this relatively young team.

While he has only scored 12 points all season in 39 minutes, he has the best name of any big man in the tournament.

The center hails from Yaounde, Cameroon and rounds out the five-man team.

Shaka Smart-VCU

6 of 6

No team is complete without a head coach, and for the second consecutive year in the tournament, VCU head coach Shaka Smart takes the honor as having the best name of any of the 68 head coaches in the Big Dance.

Smart led VCU from one of the play-in games all the way to the Final Four last season, although his name had nothing to do with it.

Could that name bring some good fortune to VCU again this year?
