March Madness 2012 Bracket: What to Expect from Each No. 1 Seed

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Being a No.1 seed does not guarantee you success in March Madness, so Kentucky, Michigan State, Syracuse and North Carolina are going to have to work hard to prove they deserve the honor.

That's the part of March Madness we all love. Any team can beat anyone, on any day. All it takes is one and the giants come tumbling down.

These No.1 seeds have to be on the lookout. Everybody is going to be giving them their best shot.

That being said, they are the favorites for a reason—they are very good.

Some people bank on the Cinderella stories in the NCAA tournaments. I'm not one of those people. Here's what I'm predicting for the tops seeds in this years tournament:

Kentucky:

We might as well get this out of the way. I'm not a fan of this Kentucky team. Sure, they're incredibly talented and they have a ton of NBA potential in the lineup, but they lack depth, and that's a huge no-no in my bracket.

The tournament is just as much about endurance and attrition as it is talent, and this is where Kentucky will fall.

Where will they end up falling you ask? I've got a probable matchup between the Wildcats and last year's champion, the Connecticut Huskies, in the third round.

There's something about the Huskies that makes me think they can make a run in the tournament. They're coached by one of the best in Jim Calhoun, and they have great experienced talent led by sophomore Jeremy Lamb and his 17.7 points per game.

Kentucky is inexperienced and has no depth. This adds up to an early exit on my bracket.

Now That You've Recovered From Your Shock...

I'm a big favorites guy, and that's going to come through on my brackets. Besides the Kentucky upset I've got the rest of the No.1 seeds carrying the show this year.

Michigan State is talented and well coached, so they should be able to handle the West. Both Syracuse and North Carolina are in the same boat over in the East and Midwest respectively, so each of these three teams will be in my Final Four, plus UConn.

After that UConn's run will end at the hands of the Spartans and Syracuse will nudge out North Carolina on the strength of their bench.

The National Championship is essentially a toss-up, as both teams are great, but I've got a ton of faith in any team coached by Tom Izzo.

In the end, he gets another banner, and Michigan State is your champion.
