Printable NCAA Bracket 2012: Teams Guaranteed To Advance from Round of 64

Jessica MarieMar 12, 2012

Odds are Kentucky will advance from the field of 64 in the NCAA tournament—and far beyond. Las Vegas oddsmakers claim Kentucky is a 5-2 favorite to win it all, according to CBSSports.com.

The Wildcats might just be more dangerous now than they would have been if they'd beaten Vanderbilt in the SEC championship on Sunday. Now, after losing for the first time since December, they could be playing a little bit hungrier.

Not that they weren't hungry before. After losing to Vanderbilt, Kentucky head coach John Calipari told the Associated Press' Eddie Pells:

The win streak? That's done now. The fact that we were invincible? That's done now. We're going to be in a dog fight. That's how you have to approach this. Play each game like it's your last.

"

Before the Commodores snapped Kentucky's 24-game win streak, it might have been hard for the Wildcats to remember what it felt like to lose. Now that they've been issued a stark reminder, odds are they won't let it happen again, at least for a while.

What are some of the other teams that are most likely to advance in the first round of the Big Dance?

Syracuse

Like Kentucky, the No. 1-seeded Orangemen got a big slice of humble pie in their conference tournament, bowing out against Cincinnati in the Big East semifinals. Syracuse finished on top of the conference's regular season standings, an impressive feat given the caliber of talent in the Big East this year.

Prior to losing to the Bearcats, the Orangemen had just one loss, which came on January 21 against Notre Dame. Perhaps they, too, forgot what losing felt like.

"I think it's going to help us a little bit," Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim told the AP after the loss. "I think players, when they're winning, they kind of excuse their mistakes. I think we finally got their attention. I think they'll be a better team going forward than they were last week."

The Orangemen, the top seed in the East, face UNC-Asheville in the first round.

Ohio State

Oddsmakers claim the Buckeyes have 6-1 odds as the second favorite to win it all, behind Kentucky.

Fans and pundits may be downplaying OSU's chances, however, after they failed to beat Michigan State in the Big Ten championship. The Buckeyes finished in a virtual tie with the Spartans in the conference standings, but failed to display the kind of straight-up dominance that the Wildcats and Orangemen showed this year, dropping seven regular season games. Three of those losses—to Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin, all ranked opponents—came during a rough two-week stretch in February.

Still, with the No. 2-seeded Buckeyes facing Loyola in the first round, they should be OK—at least for a while.
