Dwight Howard, LeBron James and 6 Players Who Can't Get Enough Attention
The NBA is full of egocentric personalities that just love to be at the center of attention.
That fact can be seen in the way that they carry themselves on the court, in the locker room, in post-game interviews and in the way that they act when the cameras are rolling.
While there are some players, like Derrick Rose, Jeremy Lin and Chris Paul, who seem to care less about how many people are watching or how many followers they have on Twitter, the vast majority of NBA players seem to love the spotlight.
While fans and media only fuel the fire of NBA players' egos by the way they interact with them and adore them, there's no excuse sometimes for the amount of attention these professional athletes often times yearn for.
Ahead is a list of the top six players in the NBA that just can't get enough attention.
LeBron "Not One...Not Two...Not Three..." James
1 of 6LeBron James isn't the most humble guy in the world, we all know that.
While he gets a lot of slack for his "the decision" show and for taking his talents to South Beach, the thing that most shows just how much he loves attention is the fact that he talked about winning, "not one...not two... not three...not four ..." NBA championships in Miami, before he even won one.
I know LeBron is trying to restore his image in the eyes of NBA fans and that's all well and good, but it doesn't change the fact that he absolutely loves being the center of attention.
Whether it's good attention or bad attention, LeBron certainly enjoys getting it, and that won't stop until he's proven good on his promise of bringing the Miami Heat eight NBA championships.
LeBron, it's going to be a long time before your out of the spotlight. Luckily for you, that's something you'll enjoy.
Kobe "No One Is Better Than I Am" Bryant
2 of 6When you think of players in the spotlight in the NBA, one player undoubtedly comes to mind before all the other ones, and that player is none other than Kobe Bryant.
Bryant has no problem calling out his teammates, calling out his coaches or calling out the refs after losses, which earns him time in the spotlight quite often. The one person he will never call out though is himself, because he's just too good of a player to do that, right?
You can tell that Bryant loves the attention that he gets, whether it's by his arrogant looking smirk or the way he handles himself in interviews with the media.
As long as Kobe's alive, he will always be in the spotlight. He's considered one of the best to ever play the game, and he certainly has no problem with that.
Kevin "Have You Ever Been in a Bar Fight, Craig?" Garnett
3 of 6Kevin Garnett is an odd personality. On the one hand, he's one of the most intense and emotional players to ever step foot on an NBA court. On the other, he's a loose cannon who seemingly loves to be in the spotlight.
Whether it's accumulating outrageous fouls like this one against the Knicks' Bill Walker, or his infamous post-game rants—like this one, asking TNT's Craig Seeger if he's ever been in a bar fight—there's no doubt that Garnett is at least comfortable getting attention for all the wrong reasons.
While KG might not necessarily be the most arrogant guy in the league or love being in the spotlight, he's certainly consistent at drawing attention to himself.
If he didn't like the attention, he would put an end to his silly post-game rants and his out-of-control tenacity at times on the court. He hasn't, though, which makes me believe that on some level he enjoys it.
Rajon "I Dare You to Trade Me" Rondo
4 of 6Rajon Rondo is a loose cannon, and that's earned him quite a bit of attention in the past few years.
He doesn't seem to know how to keep his emotions in check, as evidenced by this class act move that earned him a nice multiple game suspension.
Rondo is certainly a solid talent for the Boston Celtics, but there's no doubt that he loves being in the spotlight, much like his teammate, Kevin Garnett.
Winning a championship at such a young age with the Boston Celtics wasn't a good thing for him, as it only fueled his, "I'm the king of B-town" mentality. Rondo thinks he's untouchable, and the Celtics put that to rest when they announced he was on the trading block earlier in the year.
Whether Rondo does it on purpose or not, he continually finds himself in the spotlight and there's no doubt that he enjoys it.
J.R. "Don't Care About Winning Games" Smith
5 of 6The Knicks' J.R. Smith is one of the most selfish personalities in the game today.
He could put up 35 points in a game where his team loses by 20 and he wouldn't care, because he plays the game in a way that screams, "All I care about is getting my points night in and night out." While that might be an unfair judgement, there's no doubt that he loves being in the spotlight.
Remember that time when Smith was fined $25,000 for tweeting that picture of his girlfriend laying in his bed or that time when he was fined over $1 million dollars by his team in China?
Yeah, J.R. Smith undoubtedly loves getting the attention that he does. In all reality, he could care less what anybody else thinks about him, but in his case, that's not a good thing.
Dwight " I Run the Show" Howard
6 of 6At the top of the list of players who love attention, we've got none other than Dwight Howard.
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months, you've undoubtedly heard about Howard's list of teams that he wants to join and his desire to be traded from the Orlando Magic.
While no one really knows where Howard will land by the March 15th NBA trade deadline, one thing is for sure—wherever he goes, he will take his egocentric personality with him.
Just when it seemed like a majority of the Dwight Howard saga had died down, Howard went out and talked about his desire to possibly join the Miami Heat. Crazy, right?
Well, it goes to show just how much Dwight Howard likes being the center of attention. Just when it seems like things have died down, he gets them firing again on all cylinders because he can't exist without being the center of attention.
