College Football Recruiting 2013: Breaking Down the Top RBs in the Rivals100
Last week, we took a look at the top quarterback prospects in the Rivals100. We examined the top signal-callers on their board and gave you some insight into them.
Today, we're going to examine the top running back prospects on the board for Rivals and take a look at them. Please remember that these are not my own personal rankings and are Rivals' rankings.
Without further ado, here are the top RBs in the Rivals100.
11. Ryan Green
1 of 11At 5'11" and 195 pounds, Green is a Sunshine State back who is ranked No. 90 overall on the Rivals100. He reminds me a lot of Byron Marshall from last year, as Green does most of his damage on the perimeter.
Green has an excellent burst to and through run alleys and he can skate to the edges. He also has breakaway speed to split the safeties deep and take it to the house.
10. Taquan Mizzell
2 of 11Mizzell is ranked No. 87 overall on the Rivals100 and hails from Virginia. He stands 5'10" and weighs 180 pounds, showing excellent speed.
Mizzell will likely factor best as a "lightning" back in a two-back system, if you ask me. He can catch the ball well out of the backfield, has some Keith Marshall in him and is very elusive with the football.
9. Kalio Moore
3 of 11Moore has the same type of 5'10", 180-pound frame Mizzell does, but Moore is from Mississippi. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards last year and really has great speed to burn a defense.
He's not the type to bang in between the tackles, but Moore will skate around the field and dart to pay-dirt. His burst is his best strength as a runner.
8. Derrick Green
4 of 11Boasting 23 offers, Derrick Green is ranked No. 64 overall in the Rivals100. He's from Virginia and stands 6'0", 215 pounds.
Green is a complete, bell cow-type of back due to his size and solid play speed. He has solid run strength, foot quickness and flashes some tackle-breaking ability.
He'll visit Oklahoma and Wisconsin soon, and watch out for North Carolina and Clemson as well.
7. Justin Davis
5 of 11Davis is a Stockton, Calif., native who, at 6'1" and 195 pounds, is ranked No. 48 in the Rivals100.
David has a long and lean frame, but he has great play speed, vision, elusiveness, foot quickness and playmaking ability. He ran for more than 2,300 yards and 36 scores as a junior.
6. Jalin Marshall
6 of 11Marshall plays QB right now for his high school team, but he is so good at running with ball that many feel he's destined to play RB in college.
And he will at Ohio State; the 6'1", 190-pounder committed to the Buckeyes earlier in the recruiting process.
5. Derrick Henry
7 of 11Henry, a RB from Florida, is a beast with the football, as he stands at a humongous 6'3" and 235 pounds. He has good play speed, run strength, foot quickness, elusiveness and can get to the perimeter well.
A Georgia commit, Henry is a great talent for a big man and someone I wouldn't mind seeing play live in person.
4. Greg Bryant
8 of 11Bryant is a 5'11", 200-pound rock-toter with great power, run strength and runs well behind his pads. I really dig the fact that he's an attacking-style runner who will come downhill on a consistent basis.
Bryant is not overly elusive and will remind you a bit of Brionte Dunn in that he can be a straight-liner. But Bryant is powerful, strong and tough.
Ranked No. 23 overall by Rivals, Bryant has offers from USC, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame and Oklahoma, among others.
3. Altee Tenpenny
9 of 11Tenpenny checks in at No. 20 overall in the Rivals100 and really could move up this spring.
He's a big a back who stands in the 5'11"-6'0" range and weighs more than 200 pounds. Tenpenny shows great leg drive, flashes tackle-breaking ability, can push a pile, break free and get to the house thanks to great play speed. He really has a complete back skill set.
Tenpenny is committed to Alabama.
2. Ty Isaac
10 of 11At 6'3" and 215 pounds, Isaac is a big back from Illinois with small back capabilities. He really has great speed, elusiveness and actually runs "smaller" than his listed size.
Most backs at Isaac's size are luggers, but this guy has sheer speed and quickness. What I also like about him is his ability to factor as a receiver out of the backfield.
1. Thomas Tyner
11 of 11Tyner is a 6'0" back who weighs more than 200 pounds and has excellent speed. His combination of size and speed is deadly, and he has great run instincts. Tyner perhaps could be the fastest player in the 2013 class. He's a sprinter in track and just blows by defenders.
Oregon has Tyner's commitment.
