NCAA: Improving College Football Without a Playoff
First of all, I want to tell everyone why a playoff wouldn't work in college football.
One reason a playoff wouldn't work is practice. Coaches love the preparation for the bowls because they have a month to prepare for a game.
Secondly, the NCAA makes money off of the sponsors for the games. Would you really pay an organization that names a game the FedEx semifinals?
Thirdly, all everyone cares about is the national championship. No one wants to watch Oklahoma smoke the pants off of Cincinnati. And even if there were a playoff, people would argue who deserves to be in it.
The last reason is that athletic directors aren't that impressed with a team losing their last game. With bowl games, teams are ending the season on a good note. While in a playoff, they could lose in the first round!
ATTENTION EVERYONE! THIS ISN'T COLLEGE BASKETBALL!!!!!!
That's all I have to say about that, so let's get to what this article is about.
One thing I think the NCAA should do is make head-to-head games matter the most. Texas should have been playing against Florida and everyone knows that. I believe that there shouldn't be BCS rankings, just the Coaches Poll.
Next, in the Coaches Poll, I think every coach should be given an amount of votes they should use. Why should Joe Paterno have the same number of votes as Les Miles?
Another issue that the NCAA needs to decide on is home field advantage. If they decide games should be even, there should be speakers in the home stadium while at the away teams stadium, the away teams fans watch the game on the video screen while they make noise and that noise is played in the speakers.
No one wants to travel to California to get beaten by USC. And
Speaking of USC, BCS games must be fair, too. Why send USC to the Rose Bowl while nearly 75 percent of the stadium is filled with USC fans?
If the NCAA decides they want home-field advantage, then take away all stadium rules. Let the speakers blare music during the play. Have the band blast their instruments on third down. Imagine that environment!
Another thing for the NCAA to fix is amount of days between the last game of the season and the bowl games. First, get rid of all divisions. Just have the two top teams in the conference play each other, and doo that for every conference. I mean EVERY conference. You heard me, Big Ten!
Next, have every BCS game other than the championship on the same day. If you read an article I wrote earlier, you also saw that every week a team doesn't play, they lose a tenth of their edge. Even though the difference between two days isn't much, it's still 2/7 of that tenth. They aren't playing their best football.
Last off, get rid of those practice and meal amount rules. I know a coach who says the NCAA is banning foods because they're an extra meal. Let them have it! It's their choice!
Another issue is that there should be no limit to practices. All they're doing is getting better! Teams practice with tape balls, for crying out loud. If you ban practice length, ban those tape balls too!
That is all I have for now. Tell me what you think!
