Ohio State Football: Coach Urban Meyer Talks NCAA, Ohio and Recruiting
Ohio State has not yet started their spring practice and that means coaches have a chance to relax a bit, which is exactly what Urban Meyer was doing before this quick interview session on his vacation. Salt Lake City reporters got a quick crack at Urbz while he was out on a ski trip and, as always, the man is pretty well put together.
Kicking out Ohio love is a must for the man who is trying to lock down that state from a recruiting standpoint. He does a brilliant job of stroking the state's ego while ensuring that he firmly entrenches himself as an "Ohio guy" for the Buckeyes.
The comments about Bret Bielema stand out as intriguing, not exactly because he apologized but because he is literally laughing all the way to spring practice with the kids that he was able to wrestle away from the rest of the Big Ten. Of course Meyer is not going to apologize and the fact is he is likely not going to stop the aggressive recruiting practices either. Big Ten foes can either step their game up or get left behind because it is only going to get more intense as it seems Penn State has no intentions of going quietly into the night under Bill O'Brien.
Urban Meyer's response on the NCAA was a bit odd to say the least. The love. The kowtowing. Ultimately it just comes across as saying the right things, especially for a coach at a school that just got handed down punishment for running afoul of the governing body.
Meh. Spare me the whole the NCAA is so great rhetoric. In the end it boils down to "we got caught so hopefully if someone else gets caught we want them to get into trouble too." Not the best way to look at it if you ask me, especially when it results in guys being demonized by the media but hey, ultimately Meyer's got to play the game and he does that very well.
