Philadelphia Flyers: Where Has All the Goal Scoring Gone?
The Philadelphia Flyers are finally receiving the high-caliber goaltending they expected from Ilya Bryzgalov. While the goaltending has been surging, the NHL’s leading offense has struggled.
During the first part of the season, Bryzgalov really struggled adjusting to a new team and to a new city. While the Flyers struggled with goaltending, they were able to maintain their position in the standings by outscoring everyone with their high-powered offense.
The Flyers have the most goals scored in the NHL and average over three goals per game. Fans expected that, once the goaltending was sorted out, the team would be a serious contender for Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Over the last seven games, their goaltending has shown great improvement, allowing only ten goals and securing three shutouts. However, during that same seven game stretch, the Flyers have only scored seventeen goals and failed to score more than one goal on four different occasions.
Most teams would be thrilled to have the Flyers' offensive production shown over the last seven games. For Philadelphia, however, who usually scores over three goals per game, it is well below its standards.
The Flyers have shown that they are capable of scoring at a high level, and it is only a matter of time before their normal production level returns.
Maybe the Flyers' goal shortage is the universe's way of showing Bryzgalov how the team felt when they would score four goals, and still not get the win.
Whatever the cause, the Flyers' scoring will return. When the offense returns and Bryzgalov is playing at an elite level, the Flyers will be a serious threat in the Eastern Conference.
