Printable NCAA Bracket 2012: Upsets to Bank on in Each Region

Austin GreenMar 11, 2012

Let the madness begin.

The NCAA tournament is finally here, which means we're about to be treated to a few glorious weeks of the most intense basketball on the planet.

As always, there will be plenty of upsets that break hearts and brackets all over the country. Last season, seven lower seeds won their first-round matchup, and you can expect similar numbers this year.

East Region

No. 13 Montana (25-6) over No. 4 Wisconsin (24-9)

The Grizzlies have been playing as well as any mid-major team in the country over the last three months. They've won 14 straight games and 20 of their last 21.

Will Cherry, the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year, is one of the best defensive point guards in the country. He'll use his length, quickness and instincts to frustrate Wisconsin star Jordan Taylor.

Montana also has an advantage at shooting guard with the versatile Kareem Jamar. Jamar is an aggressive slasher with a sweet stroke and great passing ability. He's also an incredible rebounder for his size, which makes him a threat to drop a triple-double every time he suits up.

West Region

No. 12 Long Beach State (25-8) over No. 5 New Mexico (27-6)

Casper Ware of Long Beach State will be the best player on the floor against New Mexico, which means the 49ers have a great shot at advancing.

The explosive point guard is averaging 17.4 points per game. He's dropped at least 28 on five occasions this season, including a 33-point outburst against UC Santa Barbara in the Big West championship game.

Don't be surprised if he catches fire in the tourney and carries his team to the round of 32.

South Region

No. 13 New Mexico State (26-9) over No. 4 Indiana (25-8)

The Hoosiers have a few fatal weaknesses, and New Mexico State has the perfect personnel to exploit
them.

Although Cody Zeller is exceptionally talented, he gets tossed around by physical big men. Look for Wendell McKines, who's averaging 18.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, to dominate him on the inside.

The Hoosiers also struggle against ball pressure, as guards Jordan Hulls and Victor Oladipo can be quite turnover-prone. Look for New Mexico State's feisty guards to frustrate them throughout the game.

Midwest Region

No. 11 North Carolina State (22-12) over No. 6 San Diego State (26-7)

As the Wolfpack proved in the ACC tournament, they're capable of beating any team in the country.

They lost by just two points to North Carolina, and if not for a few questionable calls, they may very well have won their conference tournament. They will enter the NCAA tourney hungry and confident, which is bad news for the Aztecs.

NC State is led by a balanced scoring attack, with five players averaging at least 10 points per game. Look for Richard Howell and C.J. Leslie to dominate the paint and lead the Wolfpack into the third round.
