2012 NFL Free Agents: 5 Teams That Need Free Agency the Most
While player movement has become the key topic of conversation in the NFL this week with the upcoming free-agency period about to begin on Tuesday, teams are jockeying for position to land the top free agents on the market.
Admittedly, the list of players has diminished, as teams have worked to re-sign their top priorities. But have no fear, there is still plenty of great gems to find for the right price.
Some teams will need free agency or the draft (or both) to make their teams the best they can be.
Here is a look at five teams that really need free agency to help strengthen their position in trying to become a playoff contender or in trying to restock their team because of potential loss starting Tuesday.
Washington Redskins
1 of 5Daniel Snyder wins again. Off the field, at least.
He makes the biggest splash in the draft by trading up and now has a chance to land a 6'5" receiver to give the potential rookie a huge target.
Only in Washington, D.C.
Snyder could land others as well. While quarterback and receiver are major issues on this team, you could also see the team try to land a younger defensive back and another slot receiver.
New Orleans Saints
2 of 5I have this awful feeling the beginning of the end is about to happen in New Orleans.
The "bounty" scandal is not the only thing that looms over the heads of this football team.
Drew Brees is not happy with his "franchise" tender.
The team could lose two great receivers in Marques Colston and Robert Meachem and an excellent guard in Carl Nicks to the market.
If the team cannot re-sign them, then they need to move quickly to replace them or this team takes a major step back in the NFC and as a Super Bowl contender.
Jacksonville Jaguars
3 of 5Let's see—a pass-rusher, a receiver or two and a cover corner.
The Jaguars may not make the splash they did last season in free agency, but they will be active.
If they can re-sign their own free agents in Jeremy Mincey and Dwight Lowery, then the pressure is on the team to find key offensive weapons like a receiver (Harry Douglas), a guard (Ben Grubbs) and a defensive back (Brandon Carr).
Cleveland Browns
4 of 5The Browns were hurt the most by Washington trading up in the draft.
The Browns are a growing defensive team and struggling offensive team.
Do they try to reel in Jason Campbell? Does Matt Flynn have a place in Ohio? What happens to Peyton Hillis?
All of these questions are key. But the team must find stable offensive weapons to complement what Pat Shurmur is doing for the defensive side of the ball.
New England Patriots
5 of 5Every year, it seems the Patriots hit on a great player either in free agency or the draft.
While Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco may not have been "the" catches this team hoped they would be, give the team credit for trying.
This team is still pretty good, but needs another receiver and help on defense.
Jeremy Mincey could be a great pickup from Jacksonville. Could this team take a swipe at someone like a Mike Wallace from Pittsburgh?
