Joe Lunardi Bracket: Predicting the Final 4 According to Lunardi's Field of 68

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Whether you love him or hate him, ESPN's Joe Lunardi is usually spot-on with his bracket predictions. So, despite Selection Sunday being a day away, it's not too early to make some predictions about the Final 4.

Here's a look at what teams—in the bracket according to Lunardi—will make it to New Orleans this year.

Midwest: Kentucky Wildcats

I keep thinking the Wildcats' youth will come back and hurt them, but they just don't play like the Wildcats as of the past few years.

Despite being led by three freshman, Kentucky is just too good to not be the pick here. Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist don't play like freshmen while Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb, and Darius Miller add some experience.

Marquis Teague at point guard is the only thing that scares me about this team, but not enough to predict an early exit.

I see four-seeded Louisville, who has Gorgui Dieng to bother Davis, as the biggest threat in this bracket.

East: Syracuse Orange

I'm not convinced Syracuse is the best team in the country, but the benefit of a weak bracket here.

Two-seeded Duke is overrated in my opinion and I still think No. 3 Michigan relies on the 3-pointer a little too much.

I'll go with Syracuse, but this bracket really opens up for a team like San Diego State, or dare I say it, VCU to make a dangerous run.

This isn't to slight Syracuse, though. They are deeper than any team in the country and Dion Waiters would be averaging over 20 points per game for any other school. If the Orange shoot the ball well from deep, they are unstoppable.

West: Georgetown Hoyas

Kansas is good, but I worry about its consistency after Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor. Can Jeff Withey or Elijah Johnson consistently step up as the third scorer? I'm not so sure.

After that it's Michigan State and Georgetown, who are very similar. Both play hard-nosed defense, but have exciting athletes who can create offense in a hurry.

I'll go with the Hoyas, whose length and 2-3 defense can be downright scary

South: North Carolina Tar Heels

This is simple. If John Henson is healthy, the Tar Heels will roll to the Final 4, despite this being one of the best brackets at the top.

If he isn't, Missouri won't be nearly as affected by Carolina's size as it normally would be. The Tigers could easily take out a Henson-less UNC.

Also, Marquette has a lot of size and length, and could easily match up with North Carolina's big men.
