Cadillac Championship 2012: Tiger Woods Is Still Biggest Threat to Bubba Watson
Even though Tiger Woods is seven shots back heading into the third round of the Cadillac Championship at TPC Blue Monster at Doral, he is still the biggest threat to leader Bubba Watson, who shot an unheard of 10-under, 62 on Friday.
Woods shot par on Thursday and followed that up with a solid, but under-the-radar 67 on Friday.
However, Woods' strong Round 2 outing was overshadowed by the jaw-dropping performances at the top of the leaderboard. Both Justin Rose and Martin Kaymer shot eight under par on Thursday, joining Watson in the Miami spotlight.
Woods is currently tied for 15th heading into the weekend action, but his five birdies in Round 2 signal that his game is heating up at an ideal time and place.
He certainly cleaned up his errors, making sure not to bogey a single hole on Friday after doing so four times in Round 1. Eliminating mistakes and taking what the course gives him will be the key for Woods getting back on track in 2012 with a win at Doral.
Watson's epic second round featured nine birdies, an eagle and just one bogey. That being said, it will be consistent golf that crowns a champion on Sunday, not one heroic round or hole.
There is no other golfer out there more capable of besting Watson this weekend than Woods. He is still within realistic striking distance and has proven in the past and recently that he saves his best golf for Sunday.
Woods finished second at the Honda Classic last weekend thanks to a late surge in the final round, shooting an eight-under to come within two strokes of Rory McIlroy. We saw flashes of the old Tiger Woods then and all indications are that we will see it again soon.
With two rounds of golf still left to be played and only seven strokes separating him from the leader, Bubba Watson, Woods is still the man to be feared at the Cadillac Championship.
With McIlroy struggling, Woods is the biggest threat to Watson and the rest of the field.
