Cadillac Championship 2012 Results: Sleepers Primed to Make Run Toward Title

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

There are two groups of players most people will be focusing on at the Cadillac Championship. Those near the top of the leaderboard like Bubba Watson and Justin Rose. Or the superstars fans are hoping will make a charge like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Lost in the shuffle will be several legitimate contenders. Here are three sleepers with the ability to make some weekend noise at Doral. For a complete look at the leaderboard, check out the tournament's official Web site.

Keegan Bradley

Bradley broke onto the scene with his PGA Championship triumph last season and has been one of the most consistent golfers on tour ever since. He hasn't finished worse than 22nd in any tournament in 2012, with a cumulative score of 54-under par.

He's just four strokes off the pace heading into Saturday's action. If he can start hitting a couple more greens in regulation to give himself looks at eagles and birdies, he'll be able to make up those shots in the blink of an eye.

McIlroy is widely viewed as the next big star, but Bradley shouldn't be overlooked. He has all the tools to become a dominant player as well.

Y.E. Yang

It always seems like Yang rises to the occasion in big events. He might struggle at some of the smaller tournaments, like he did at the Honda Classic last week. When most of the world's best players are in a field, however, he steps his game up.

The key for him will be to improve his scrambling. If there's one flaw in his game it's that he tends to compound his errors. For example, his sand save percentage is just 25 through two rounds. He needs to start getting those up and down for par to make a comeback.

He's seven shots back to begin Round 3, so his run will need to start immediately. If he can cut it to three or four shots by Sunday, he'll be right there at the end.

Charl Schwartzel

Last year's Masters champion appears to be rounding into form to defend his green jacket. He hasn't gone low in either of the first two rounds, but he's posted two solid numbers to leave himself just five strokes behind Watson.

Schwartzel should be extremely pleased to be in that position considering how poorly he's played off the tee. He's hit just 50 percent of the fairways so far, but has still managed to navigate the course. If he starts finding the short grass, watch out.

He continues to fly under the radar despite that Masters victory, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It allows him to focus solely on his game, which is improving.
