Cadillac Championship 2012 Leaderboard: Stars Who Will Make Weekend Charges

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Bubba Watson leads a star-studded Cadillac Championship field heading into the weekend, but there are no shortage of contenders waiting to make their move. Watson's lead is far from safe with most of the world's best golfers attempting to conquer the blue monster.

Here's a look at three elite players primed to make a run toward the top over the next two days. For a glimpse at the leaderboard, check out the tournament's official site.

Lee Westwood

Lost in all the hoopla of Tiger Woods' resurgence last Sunday was a terrific round by Westwood. He posted a seven-under 63. He couldn't carry that momentum over to this week, however, as he opened with a 76.

He got his game back on track on Friday. His drives were more accurate, which allowed him to turn bogeys into birdies. That should give him the boost he needs to make some noise on moving day to at least cut the deficit in half.

The key will be getting off to a quick start. He's been streaky all season, so a couple early birdies will get him on track for another low round.

Tiger Woods

After a rocky first round, which has been commonplace for Woods over the past few years, he was able to bounce back yesterday. He didn't have a bogey en route to a five-round round that leaves him seven off the pace.

It seems like he has all of his shots back, but he just can't put everything together at once. If he's driving the ball well, he can't make a putt. If putts are dropping, his game off the tee struggles. He'll want to find a remedy for those issues before the Masters.

As for Saturday, he just needs to get the crowd involved. Not only do the roars give him confidence, but they send a message to everybody else as well.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career, so it wasn't overly surprising to see him have some issues on Thursday. A big win hangover, so to speak. He got himself back within striking distance in Round 2, though.

He's the No.1-ranked player for a reason. When he's clicking on all cylinders, nobody in the world can beat him. So if there's anybody who can make up a bunch of strokes without breaking a sweat, it's going to be the Northern Irishman.

It would be perfect if Woods and McIlroy both sneak back into contention on Saturday, and are in the same pairing on Sunday. That would be must-see television.
