Denver Broncos Choose Josh McDaniels to Replace Mike Shanahan As Head Coach

Sayre BedingerJan 11, 2009

After extensive interviewing, the Denver Broncos have finally chosen a replacement for Mike Shanahan as the leader of their team.

Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Josh McDaniels is the heir apparent, and at only 32 years of age, he could be in it for the long haul.

Denver officials have yet to confirm the news, but two leagues sources close to the situation have said that McDaniels is the man.

The new Broncos head coach beat out Minnesota's Leslie Frazier and Tampa Bay's Raheem Morris out for the job.

McDaniels has eight years of NFL experience, all with the Patriots. He has helped develop quarterbacks Tom Brady and Matt Cassel, and orchestrated some of the best offensive teams in NFL history.

He will be inheriting a Denver offense that has the potential to be one of the best of all time, but his arrival still leaves question marks on the defensive side of the ball.

Denver fans are probably wondering why the Broncos decided on an offensive minded coach when it was the Defense who struggled, but worry not.

McDaniels will be in charge of hiring all of his defensive staff, and with the knowledge he has gained in New England, he should be able to put together a formidable staff.

The arrival of McDaniels does not guarantee that Denver will be implementing the 3-4 defense, so don't assume that is the plan. The Broncos would likely have to give a facelift to any and all personnel they have accumulated, and that task could take too long for comfort.

Stay tuned for more coaching and General Manager updates, and here comes the Josh McDaniels revolution!
