ACC Tournament 2012 Scores: UNC Not as Fearsome as They Appear in Tourney
The University of North Carolina Tar Heels are a favorite to win the ACC tournament, but the fact of the matter is that they are an extremely beatable squad.
Under Roy Williams, who has coached the program since 2003, the team has only won two ACC tournament championships—2007 and 2008.
The coach once admitted that the tournament, to him at least, is nothing more than “a great cocktail party.”

UConn's STACKED Schedule ☠️

Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
Despite his regular season successes in the conference—six wins in each of 10 seasons, including this most recent one—his teams have failed to consistently perform come this competition.
Contrast that with Duke, their fiercest rival, who thrives in the conference postseason event and has won 10 of the last 15 tourneys.
It just doesn’t seem to matter to Williams, according to Robbi Pickeral of ESPN.
"Williams said before UNC beat Duke to win the ACC regular-season championship Saturday that he believes the 16-game ACC schedule should carry more weight than the four-day tournament (he even thinks the regular-season champ should earn the automatic NCAA bid).
"
Of course, Coach Williams’ two Tar Heel national championship teams did not win the ACC tournament, and that could play a major role in his opinion (they cut down the final nets in 2005 and 2009).
Since Williams isn’t going all-out to win like he does during the regular season and March Madness, it makes his squad vulnerable.
This team is susceptible to lapses—they lost to unranked UNLV in the beginning of the season and got smashed by Florida State, falling by 33 points in a nationally televised game.
Those Seminoles took them down by bombing away from the three-point range, moving the ball, crashing the boards and playing tight defense.
That is a recipe to win any game at any level of organized hoops, but teams have tried and succeeded plenty of times against UNC and failed.
However, without a motivated coach and with players who are looking ahead to the Big Dance, the Tar Heels can certainly fall before the ACC final.
