2013 USC Football Recruiting: Top Commitments, Players Considering the Trojans

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

USC is poised not only to make a run in the Pac-12 this year, but they are also a prime-time BCS title game contender. Faced with sanctions and scholarship limits, Lane Kiffin and his staff have had to evaluate prospects thoroughly, offer only top-quality talent and manage roster numbers flawlessly over the past two seasons.

This 2013 recruiting class likely again will be on the small side, so Kiffin and his staff will have to rely heavily on evaluating prospects that are sure to contribute in their Trojan careers. For this read, I'm going to give you a couple of elite prospects that are considering the Trojans for 2013.

Top Commitment: Kenny Bigelow, DL

1 of 5

Bigelow, a Delaware native, is actually the only commit USC has at the moment. But he's a sheer 5-star prospect on the DL.

At 6'3", 285-pounds, Bigelow is extremely explosive at the snap, plays with excellent pad level and has "flat back ability." He can get up under an OL's pads and walk them back due to the ability to jump on top at the snap and strength to keep coming.

Bigelow has great athleticism and range to pursue ball carriers versus the run. He's also displayed a burst to finish on the passer and can also play TE.

Nation's Top QB Was at USC's Junior Day

2 of 5

Max Browne is viewed as the nation's top QB, as Scout.com lists him No.5 overall in their top 300 rankings. Hailing from Washington, Browne has offers from among the nation's best programs.

6'5" and in the 200-pound range, he's a got a strong arm, great size and accuracy and he threw for over 4000 yards and 45 TDs as a junior.

Browne seems to have interest in USC, as he attended the Trojans' Junior Day last month and could make a return trip during spring break.

Trojans in Top Two for West Coast Safety

3 of 5

Max Redfield, a top tier West Coast safety prospect out of Mission Viejo, CA, is a 6'2", 195-pounder with good athleticism, length, instincts and ball skills.

Redfield is rated the No.6 safety in the country and a 4-star prospect by Scout.com. He reportedly has a top two that consists of USC and Oregon.

Yes, the Trojans have offered, so their chances look pretty good right now with Redfield.

Prime Prospect: Michael Hutchings, LB

4 of 5

At 6'2" and 210 pounds, Hutchings likely is the top LB prospect on the West Coast for 2013. He has excellent range, athletic ability, quickness, solid play speed and is very instinctive.

Currently, he lists USC, Notre Dame, Oregon and Washington as the schools recruiting him the hardest.

It's a bit of a contrast, as last December, Hutchings actually told Scout.com that USC was his leader.

Stay tuned as we follow Hutchings' recruitment throughout the year.

Trojans Recruiting 5-Star Safety

5 of 5

Su'a Cravens is one the elite players in the country, evidenced by his 5-star billing and No.9 overall ranking in the Scout 300.

6'1" and 205 pounds, Cravens can play RB, LB or DB, but I feel his best position in college will be indeed at safety. He totaled 100 tackles, 11 sacks and three picks last year from the back end.

Cravens, who was at the USC Junior Day last month, spoke at length with the USC coaches and was informed that they like him as a safety or OLB. I think USC has a solid chance to land him.
