MLB 2k12 Review: New Roles in My Player Mode Trigger Feeling of Team Atmosphere
Congratulations, youโre a Yankee.
Taking the "I" factor out of an individual video-game mode is nearly impossible. I say nearly because MLB 2k12 pulled it off. ESPNโs professional baseball game was released on Tuesday, and it's My Player mode that makes you feel like youโre not just an individual playing on a team, but that youโre actually a part of that team.
No longer are you on the Boston Red Sox. You are a Red Sox.
Game Spyโs Mike Nelson wrote that:
"โThe My Player mode, which is kind of like a baseball RPG, has only seen one improvement and that's with the addition of roles (contact hitter, base stealer, power hitter, etc.)โor if I'm sticking with the RPG angle, that would be Warrior, DPS, and Tank. The upside is that it's easier to determine where to spend my skill points to improve my player, rather than blanket my earned skill points to create an overall average player, which you can still do as well. But these roles made it more engaging to know that I was serving a specific role in the lineupโlike I was part of a team.โ
"
MLB 2k12 allows you to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Instead of being a lone ranger on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, you play the role of a contact hitter to give Albert Pujols a shot at bringing in multiple runs.
Running a franchise is overrated. Be part of a franchise in a whole new way in MLB 2k12.
