NFL Free Agent Rumors: Buffalo Bills Interested in Chargers' Vincent Jackson

Chris TrapassoJun 3, 2018

Who isn't interested in San Diego Chargers free agent wideout Vincent Jackson

Well, for once, the Buffalo Bills seem to have legitimate interest in a sought-after wide receiver that would infuse a ton of explosiveness to the team's offense.

Over the last few seasons, they've used the free agency period as a time to add depth and novelty players to their club. (see: Davis, Andra and Smith, Brad)

The rumor stemmed from an article by Kevin Acee in the San Diego Union-Tribune that stated the following: "It is believed the Buffalo Bills remain interested in Jackson despite signing Stevie Johnson to a five-year, $36.25 million deal on Monday."

That little tidbit of quasi-speculation has sparked Bills fans to dream of a mammoth receiving corp featuring Jackson, Johnson and slot guy David Nelson that surely would create matchup nightmares for opposing secondaries.

It's well known that current Bills general manager Buddy Nix was an assistant GM for the Chargers in 2005 when the team drafted Jackson in the second round of the 2005 draft.

The ties are unquestionably there.

However, that same report states that Jackson does want to remain in San Diego. According to Acee's sources, the 6'5'' wideout is willing to take less money to stay in an offense with Philip Rivers, but not a whole lot less.

Acee says the Chargers will likely offer Jackson somewhere between the $10-11 million range in annual salary.

He could possibly make more money if he hits the open market.

In the eyes of many, Jackson is the one of the top free agents on the market and the best free-agent wide receiver.

While that could be true, one must remember these facts about V-Jax.

He's 29 years old and although he has eclipsed the 1,000-receiving yard mark three times as a professional, he has never hauled in more than 68 catches or nine touchdowns in San Diego's vertical system.

Prior to the Chargers 2008 second-round playoff game, Jackson was arrested on his second DUI charge in three years.

There's no doubting that Jackson is one of the premier deep threats in the NFL and would be significantly beneficial to Chan Gailey's spread offense, but I have to ask—how much would you be willing to pay per season for him?
