5 Seniors Crucial to USC Football Dominance in 2012
USC will arguably come into the upcoming season as the favorite to win the national championship.
Although the Trojans have a lot of young talent, they will rely on their senior leadership when it gets down to the nitty-gritty.
A lot of fans know about the developing and extremely talented receiving core. Others know about the youthful linebackers that continue to improve.
However, it will be these five seniors that must perform and lead the way if USC hopes to accomplish their ultimate goal of winning a championship.
Matt Barkley
1 of 5This goes without saying. When Barkley made the decision to come back for his senior year at USC, he became not only the important senior for the Trojans, but arguably, the most important player on the team.
Serving as a captain and example to the team last season, Barkley will lead the offense into battle each game. Everyone knows he has an amazing arm and makes smart decisions with the ball, but his leadership ability is one of the aspects of his game that is really underrated.
The expectations for Barkley will be through the roof, but if he picks up from where he left off last season, USC will be just fine.
T.J. McDonald
2 of 5T.J. McDonald is the Trojan defense's Matt Barkley. All this means is that he is their leader on the defensive end.
McDonald making the decision to come back for his senior year was not as hyped up, but it had a big impact on USC's chances for a national championship.
McDonald is easily an NFL talent, however, his skill, experience, and talent will be utilized by the Trojans for one more year.
Somewhat of a ball hawk, McDonald led the team with three interceptions last year. However, he is known for his hard hits and intimidating glare through his helmet.
Look for McDonald to have a huge impact on the field season. He's going to have to in order for the Trojans to succeed on the defensive end.
Curtis McNeal
3 of 5Curtis McNeal was really the unsung hero for the Trojans last season. His run game complemented USC's passing game very well with a hard-hitting run style.
Never afraid to lower his head and take a hit, McNeal stepped in while Marc Tyler struggled.
He may be a little on the small side, but McNeal keeps his legs moving, has impressive balance, and is a much more physical player than he gets credit for.
Although defenses will be much more prepared for him this upcoming season, it will still be hard to stop both the Trojan's impressive passing game and a solid ground attack.
Be on the lookout for another break out season from McNeal.
Khaled Holmes
4 of 5I would not be surprised if Khaled Holmes was named a captain before the start of next season.
Being the center, he plays a very important part for the Trojans on the offensive end. He's a big guy who stands at 6'4" 310 lbs with impressive footwork and the ability to play multiple positions.
He previously played guard for USC, but made a successful move to the center position.
Your typical football fan won't be able to see the true impact of Holmes. Just know he's the first line of defense for Barkley.
Devon Kennard
5 of 5Devon Kennard looks to step into a much bigger role this season. With the loss of defensive end Nick Perry to the NFL, Kennard has the opportunity to be the next defensive force for the Trojans on the line.
He only has 13 career starts, but he should get a lot more time out on the field this upcoming year.
Kennard is 6'3" 250 lbs, and has always had a nose for the ball. He has nine tackles for a loss in limited playing time. Keep this name in mind as we near the next season.
