UFC on FX 2 Results: Memorable Moments from the Event
With the debut of the flyweight division, UFC on FX 2 was already going to go down in history, but the insane fight between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson and an unbelievable comeback win from Martin Kampmann made sure this card will be remembered.
With a solid preliminary card and an awesome main card on FX, the UFC gave the Australian fans another great card and left fans happy going into a long break in between events.
Shawn Jordan Wrecks Oli Thompson
1 of 7In the first fight of the night that was originally supposed to be an unaired bout, Shawn Jordan and Oli Thompson went toe-to-toe in an entertaining heavyweight slugfest.
Jordan rocked Thompson with huge punches throughout the fight and eventually landed a huge punch that put Thompson on Dream Street.
He followed that up with a big knee that forced the referee to stop the bout and Jordan earned his first UFC victory in impressive fashion.
Equally impressive was the backflip that Jordan pulled off after the fight.
I didn’t think a man of his size could pull that off.
TJ Waldburger’s Insane Armbar Win over Jake Hecht
2 of 7TJ Waldburger was already known as a submission specialist heading into his fight with Jake Hecht, but he definitely raised some eyebrows with his quick armbar finish.
It was common knowledge that Waldburger was going to need to get the fight to the mat to gain an advantage in this one and he ended up grabbing an arm in the clinch and dragging Hecht straight into an armbar.
The submission was a clean and technical as we’ve seen, and Waldburger is now quickly making a name for himself in the welterweight division.
James Te Huna Destroys Aaron Rosa
3 of 7Known for having some serious knockout power in his hands, James Te Huna showed off his improved technical striking and blasted Aaron Rosa with a ton of huge shots in order to pull off the first-round win.
Te Huna took control of the fight from the word "go," rocking Rosa with some many solid shots that it soon became a miracle that Rosa was still standing.
The finish came as Rosa started taking a ridiculous amount of punishment, and Te Huna is now riding a two-fight win streak and has a ton of momentum going forward.
If Te Huna is able to land punches like the ones he did tonight in his next few bouts, the entire light heavyweight division is going to have to start paying attention.
Anthony Perosh Continues His Winning Ways
4 of 7Returning to his native country of Australia, Anthony Perosh had the support of the crowd on his side and didn’t disappoint them.
Perosh looked awesome against Nick Penner, scoring a couple of takedowns and eventually passing all the way to mount and landing some serious ground-and-pound to stop the fight.
Perosh has been known for his jiu jitsu skills for the majority of his career, so seeing him lay some serious punches on Penner did a lot for his stock in the division and it will be interesting to see how far the 39-year-old can go in the light heavyweight division.
Johnson and McCall Put on a Show in the First-Ever UFC Flyweight Fight
5 of 7These two kicked off the flyweight tournament in a way that the UFC could have only dreamed about, fighting at what seemed like 100 miles an hour and trading shots and momentum throughout the bout.
After razor-thin first and second rounds, it seemed like it was going to be an impossible fight to score going into the third, but McCall stepped up and delivered the most dominant round of the fight and many believed he had done enough to squeak out a win over "Mighty Mouse."
The original decision was announced as a win for Johnson, but it was later reveled that a scoring error was made and the bout was a draw.
This means that these two will be forced to have a rematch later this year, with the winner set to fight Joseph Benavidez.
Joseph Benavidez Knocks out Yahuhiro Urushitani, Earns Spot in Flyweight Final
6 of 7Many have called Joseph Benavidez the uncrowned flyweight champion for a few years now, and he will have a chance to finally prove them right in his next bout.
Benavidez went out and dominated Yashuhiro Urushitani for the entire duration of the fight, scoring a nice takedown in the first round and almost scoring a submission as the round ended.
He then came out and landed a huge counter in the opening seconds of the second round, dropping his opponent and quickly finishing the fight with some ground and pound.
Benavidez will now have to wait for the rematch between Johnson and McCall to take place before he gets to fight for the flyweight title in his next fight.
Martin Kmapmann Submits Thiago Alves, Scores Incredible Comback Win
7 of 7For almost the entire fight, Thiago Alves looked like the Alves of 2008, dominating Martin Kampmann on the feet and stuffing the majority of the takedown attempts Kampmann threw at him.
With just under a minute left in the bout, Alves landed a nice combination and looked to drag Kampmann to the mat in order to secure the win, but Kampmann locked in a tight guillotine choke and forced “The Pitbull” to tap out, earning the huge come from behind win.
The win moves Kampmann into the upper echelon of the welterweight division, while the loss moves Alves to 2-3 in his last five bouts and likely eliminates him from title contention for the near future.
