MMA Daily Video Fix: Flyweight Preview, UFC on FX 2 Weigh-Ins
Today's Daily Video Fix features a heavy slant towards tonight's UFC on FX 2 action in Australia, and why not? It's not the biggest or greatest card the UFC's ever promoted, but the televised card does feature at least three bouts with barn-burning potential.
Get set for all of the action from down under with today's visual offerings.
Countdown to the Flyweight Tournament
1 of 3The UFC's newest division gets the Countdown treatment, albeit in pared-down form. Learn more about Joseph Benavidez, Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall in the video to the left.
Japanese import Yasuhiro Urushitani is nowhere to be found, but that's to be expected, given the UFC's lack of actual footage on the guy.
And besides, these are the three guys you'll want to learn about, mostly because they're the only three with any real shot at making it to the finals. Urushitani is a 14 to 1 underdog in some places, which means he's not really being given much of a chance to beat Team Alpha Male-product Benavidez.
UFC on FX 2 Weigh-in Highlights: The Flyweights
2 of 3Have you sensed my excitement for the flyweight tournament?
I'm not exactly being shy about it. The biggest overall fight of the weekend is undoubtedly the Miesha Tate/Ronda Rousey tilt tomorrow night on Showtime, but there's just something about a good, old-fashioned tournament to crown a new champion that gets my heart racing.
Before the guys step in the cage tonight, they stepped on the scale. Check out the highlights in this quick video clip.
UFC on FX 2 Weigh-in Highlights: Alves vs. Kampmann
3 of 3Here's a stunning fact for you: Just hours after stepping on the scale and making weight for tonight's bout with Martin Kampmann at 170.5 pounds, Thiago Alves stepped on a scale in his hotel room and weighed 197.6 pounds.
Yes, you read that correctly. Thiago Alves gained twenty-seven pounds in roughly three hours under the guidance of Mike Dolce.
I know Dolce, and I've spent plenty of time learning about nutrition from him. I believe he's the best in the business when it comes to shedding weight in a healthy manner. He's helped countless people, from fighters to regular citizens, shed weight and keep it off.
But twenty-seven pounds in three hours? There's no possible way that's good for your body.
One thing is for certain: Alves is going to be a monster going into the cage tonight.
