NFL Combine 2012: Stephen Hill and More Prospects Whose Stock Will Skyrocket

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Now that the NFL Scouting Combine has wrapped up, it's time to sit back and analyze which players helped themselves the most in Indianapolis.

There are always a couple players who come out of the shadows to significantly improve their draft stock.

Here are three prospects who will fall into that category this season.

Stephen Hill

Hill entered the combine on the wrong end of a massive group of receivers projected to be selected in the second or third round. After clocking the second-fastest 40-yard dash, however, he should make a big jump up draft boards.

He possesses great size at 6'4''. When you add lightning quickness to the equation, he suddenly becomes a very intriguing prospect. With so many teams at the back end of Round 1 looking to add a receiver, there's a chance he sneaks into one of those spots.

Even though Hill will need some time to develop his secondary skills such as route running, his raw potential has become too difficult to ignore for a team like the San Francisco 49ers.

Josh Robinson

It appeared Robinson made a mistake leaving UCF after his junior season, but his combine performance is changing that opinion. He had elite performances in the 40, vertical jump and broad jump to showcase his tremendous athleticism.

Robinson didn't do enough to warrant a first-round selection—that wasn't really possible to begin with—but he definitely brought himself into the second-round discussion. If he's able to secure a spot there, his decision to come out will turn out just fine.

Just like Hill, Robinson is going to need some work on his technique before he reaches his potential. That said, placed in the right system, he'll be able to contribute right away while learning the ropes.

Dontari Poe

Poe looked like a man among boys during the bench press. It was funny to watch his fellow defensive linemen, who are competing against him for draft positioning, to look on in awe as he kept cranking out rep after rep until he reached 44.

The impressive feat of strength should ensure he gets selected somewhere within Round 1. Further workouts will determine if he's able to jump over Fletcher Cox and Devon Still, which could slide him into the top half of the round.

While there were some concerns about making the transition after playing against inferior competition at Memphis, those should be subdued now. Anybody with that much strength will be able to hold his own in the NFL.

He'll be a dominant nose tackle in a 3-4 defense.
