The Rivals 100: The Top Early Commitments in the 2013 Rivals 100
So, the Rivals 100 is out for 2013, and while many players on the list are still gathering offers, looking at schools, collecting letters and phone calls from coaches and more, we have several talented recruits who are already locked up.
Recruiting starts earlier and earlier every year, so it's no shock some of the top prospects in the 2013 class have already made their commitments and college selections. Using the list as my foundation for this story, I'm going to give you the top commitments from the Rivals 100.
Altee Tenpenny, RB
1 of 9Tenpenny had an All-State-caliber sophomore season but was injured as a junior. He's a 6'0", 205-pound rock-toter with excellent run strength, burst and agility.
Look for him to have a stellar return to the field as a senior this fall and to really surge up some lists.
Committed to Alabama.
Derrick Griffin, WR
2 of 9Griffin's junior stats aren't exactly game-breaking, but you can see the 6'6", 215-pounder's potential if you watch him close. He's long and just a monster versus DBs in press coverage.
Griffin has solid speed, the length to snatch balls all around his frame and the ability to high point throws in crowds.
Committed to Texas A&M.
Shane Morris, QB
3 of 9Morris is a 6'3", 190-pound QB that spins it via the southpaw. He shows some quickness in his climbs from center, can move around well to buy time in and out of the pocket and has a strong arm to get it to the third level.
Committed to Michigan.
Ricky Seals-Jones, WR
4 of 9RS-J currently plays QB and FS for his high school team, but many feel he'll develop into a pass-catcher in college. Notice I said pass-catcher? While WR is the projection of many, don't sleep on TE.
Seals-Jones stands at a towering 6'5", 220-pounds and is a top tier athlete. I think he can become a great WR in college.
Committed to Texas.
Tyrone Swoopes, QB
5 of 9Swoopes and Seals-Jones will be linked for the duration of their careers. Swoopes is a big QB at 6'5", 220-pounds and can do it all.
He could be the top player in Texas this year, as he can slice a defense with a strong arm and good accuracy or take off and make plays with his feet.
Committed to Texas.
Thomas Tyner, RB
6 of 9Tyner is a big and rough 6'0", 200-plus-pound RB prospect from Oregon. He's got a thick frame, great power and good speed/quickness to complement his game.
He'll be one of the top rock-toters this year and rushed for over 1100 yards last year.
Committed to Oregon.
Cameron Burrows, DB
7 of 9Burrows is a big DB that stands at 6'1", 195-pounds. He can play CB or S and be a versatile back end defender. He shows the hips and mirror ability to cover, which is great since he's such a large frame DB.
I also like his athleticism, foot quickness and ability to locate and make plays on the ball in the air.
Committed to Ohio State.
Kenny Bigelow, DT
8 of 9Hailing from Delaware, Bigelow is interestingly listed as a DE by Rivals. He shows up on my DT board, but it's not like he can't play end.
6'3", 280-pounds, he notched 15 sacks as a junior—wreaking havoc with excellent speed, quickness, tenacity, strength and a will to fight to pressure. He can play DE or DT.
Committed to USC.
Reuben Foster, LB
9 of 9Foster is the top LB in the nation and is the top committed player in the nation as well. He's a 6'2", 240-pound LB with all the tools. He's also very, very productive, which tells me he doesn't just look the part, but he plays the part too.
He's got a chance to be a special player in college and is already likely the best player in the Peach State this year.
Committed to Alabama.
