WWE: 5 Reasons Why Undertaker's WrestleMania Streak Should Never End

David LevinJun 7, 2018

In the "sport" of wrestling, there is nothing more iconic than The Undertaker's 19-0 win streak at WrestleMania.

While other wrestlers come and go, retire and un-retire and change their stripes and run back to the fans for support, Undertaker's streak is right up there with the greatest feats in the business.

It used to be that Ric Flair's 16 World Championships were the standard by which people were judged. And yes, the titles are great and prove he many the greatest "champion" of all time. But he is judged by the titles he held and the era he mainly worked in.

The Undertaker is a wrestler for every generation and every era and every promotion.

But what happens in a little over a month when the 46-year-old former tight-rope, top rope walker gets in the ring with Triple H? Does the streak end? Does the aura stop? Does the "Dead Man" climb back into the tomb and wait another year or does he fall into the underworld and fade away?

Here are some reasons why we as fans and writers want the streak to live on in wrestling history.

If He Loses in His Final Match, the Streak Is for Naught

Think about the buildup each year and how the WWE markets the event. It isn't WrestleMania anymore as much as it is "The Streak."

The Streak has become as important as the biggest WWE pay-per-view event on a yearly basis. It is spoken of worldwide and in terms of feats, it could be as iconic as DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak and Pete Rose's hits record.

People who are even casual fans identify with it.

Would Go Down as the Only Unbeaten Record in Wrestling History

It is hard to define what that kind of record means other than to say it is the greatest display of wrestling ability.

If you look at the wrestlers who have faced the Dead Man over the years, he has outlasted most of them. Triple H was right: He and Undertaker are the last two (maybe Kane) of an era, a generation and a following.

To say that these wrestlers had a true hand in this history (even on a losing end) means something. To see him go against the likes of Triple H, The Rock, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels and Kane speaks volumes of the talent he has beaten over the years.

Makes Him the Greatest of All Time

We all debate this issue all the time on BR.

Does an unbeaten streak and a record that stands alone make you the best? There is some great debate over that. But here is something to think about. The creative team and Vince McMahon must think highly of this man to script him to win for two decades and prove he still has what it takes to be the best.

That is a lot of pressure, but that is also a ton of respect. Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair did not get that kind of repayment on their efforts.

And he is one of the most respected men ever in the company and the business.

Allows Him to Retire on Top

When you retire without giving up that streak, it shows your career was pretty game good.

While the record is something he will always be remembered for, Undertaker was also a champion of many titles and had some of the best feuds in the business.

When you leave on top, it means you have been the best at what you do, given tremendous respect by your peers and your efforts put you in a position to be the best for a long time.

Few can say they were afforded that chance.

It Will Never Be Broken

Once he retires, it's over.

I cannot see another wrestler in this era to put something together like that, unless John Cena wins the WWE Title a record 10 times.

But an event such as WrestleMania is such where everyone knows it is coming, and just the hint that it could be broken give fans the "want" to buy a ticket.

When a streak does that, it truly means something.
