College Football Recruiting 2012: The Top Offensive Position Classes
For this read, we're going to take a look back to the 2012 recruiting class. I went back and gobbled up and sorted out the classes by position groups to see which school did the best at each position.
This is the offensive edition of this two-part series, to which I'm going to give you the best offensive position recruiting classes. Who signed the best group of QBs? Which school has the best incoming class of OLs?
Let's find out right now!
Offensive Line: Stanford
1 of 5The best offensive line class for 2012 goes to Stanford in my book. The Cardinal signed three OLs that are among the top 50 players overall in the country.
Andrus Peat is ready to contribute now as he stands 6'7", 300 pounds and will be a solid collegiate LT. Kyle Murphy is a 6'7", 270-pound OT that can play LT or RT. Josh Garnett is among the top OGs in the nation as the 6'5", 275-pounder has great athleticism in the interior.
Honorable Mention: Texas and USC
Tight Ends: Florida
2 of 5This was the easiest choice to make. Florida takes the cake for the best TE class of 2012 by a mile.
Kent Taylor and Colin Thompson compliment each other perfectly. Taylor is a 6'5", 215-pounder that will be a pass catching TE that can flex, move, motion and still in-line.
Thompson is a big 6'5", 255-pounder that has great strength to block in-line while also the soft hands to catch too.
Wide Receivers: Alabama
3 of 5Shocking right? The more and more I looked at the top WR classes, the more and more I said "this can't be right." But it's the truth.
Alabama has the top incoming group of WRs for 2012. Cyrus Jones, Chris Black and Amari Cooper will all help 'Bama on the offensive perimeter.
All bring great speed, solid RAC ability and good natural ball skills to help jolt the Crimson Tide passing game. Alabama did very well this year in upgrading their WR depth.
Running Backs: Alabama
4 of 5Next month, officially Alabama will be able to claim they've put out two first-round RBs in the past couple years when Trent Richardson is selected as the top RB in the draft.
So getting great RBs like T.J. Yeldon and Kenyan Drake was an easy sell. Yeldon dazzled at the Army game with excellent speed and natural instincts on a 6'1", 215-pound frame.
Drake is a slickster with the ball, elusive and has great speed to put pressure on a defense too.
Quarterbacks: Washington
5 of 5The Huskies are my pick this year, as they have two of the top 15 or 20 QBs in the nation.
Jeff Lindquist will come to Seattle with some Jake Locker whispers with him, as the 6'3", 215-pounder has a solid arm, great athleticism and good delivery.
Cyler Miles is a 6'4", 220-pound athletic QB with excellent dual-threat ability. Miles can sling it well and when things break down in the pocket, he'll burn a defense with his legs.
