UFC 144 Results: Henderson Has Best Chance to Pull Upset over Edgar
Saturday night's Lightweight Title fight between Ben Henderson and Frankie Edgar will prove to be as even a fight as we will see all night at UFC 144 in Japan.
Edgar is the favorite based on the fact that he is defending his title and also defending his record, as he has not lost in almost four years.
He is 14-1-1 overall, and 9-1-1 in UFC.
However, Henderson is the exception tonight in Japan. His attacking style should make for one great match against Edgar.
Edgar will be matched up against an entirely different beast than what he is used to. Henderson displays energetic play, but still manages to use his increasing strength and agility to his advantage. Those two things will give him an advantage against Edgar, who may not be equally up to the challenge in those categories.
Edgar will have his wrestling game going and will hope to use that as a key motivator in this fight. Also, he will try to continue his momentum that came from his come-from-behind victory against Maynard.
But Henderson is riding his own high coming into UFC 144. He last defeated Clay Guida in November and will hope to ride that momentum into his toughest opponent yet in Edgar.
An upset will take place in this fight, though. Henderson's size and strength will be on display against Edgar who is three inches smaller than Henderson, as well as having a better overall ground game that should really turn the tables on Edgar.
The goal for Henderson would be to get Edgar to the ground as soon as possible. Edgar has the advantage while on his feet, but it is when he gets to the ground that problems start to occur.
Henderson's ground technique then comes into play, as does the strength and size he has over Edgar.
The defending champion will have a lot of trouble tonight against a bigger, stronger and faster Henderson. We can expect a Henderson TKO of Edgar in the third round.
