Missouri Basketball: 4 Lessons Learned in Loss to Kansas
The Missouri Tigers clashed with Kansas on Saturday for a border war of the ages.
Unfortunately for Mizzou, the Tigers came up on the short end of the scoreboard as they lost to the Jayhawks in overtime by the score of 87-86.
With the loss, the Tigers fell two games behind KU in the Big 12 standings, and will likely have to settle for second or third place in the conference this season.
Here are four lessons that we learned from MU's loss to Kansas.
Missouri's Woes at Allen Fieldhouse Continue
1 of 4It's been a long time since Missouri last beat Kansas in Lawrence.
In fact, the last time that it happened was in 1999, which was 13 games ago.
After another heart-breaking loss to the Jayhawks on the road, it's clear that KU has Missouri's number at home.
Fortunately for the Tigers, they likely won't be playing a conference road game at Lawrence ever again.
Missouri Will Likely Not Be a No. 1 Seed in the Big Dance
2 of 4Just last week, it looked like Missouri was well on their way to a No. 1 seed in this year's NCAA tournament.
Now, it's looking like that will not happen for Mizzou.
After a stunning home loss to Kansas State earlier this week and their latest setback to Kansas, their chances for a top seed are now in jeopardy.
Instead, they will likely be looking at a No. 2 or No. 3 seed in this year's big dance.
Missouri Lost This Game Because They Couldn't Finish
3 of 4This lesson is probably the most obvious for various reasons.
Missouri played one of its better games of the season on Saturday against KU.
The Tigers had a 19-point lead at one point in the second half, but failed to deliver in the end because of their inability to finish off the Jayhawks.
This is something that will have to change come tournament time, or the Tigers will be looking at another early exit like last year.
Frank Haith Now Knows Why It's Very Difficult to Win the Big 12 Conference
4 of 4First-year Missouri coach Frank Haith finally go to see why the Big 12 conference championship runs through Lawrence, Kansas.
After beating the Jayhawks in his first-ever matchup against them as Mizzou's coach, he wasn't able to defeat them the second time around.
There is a reason that KU has won the Big 12 regular season conference title for the past eight seasons.
Haith and the Tigers have to be elated that they will not be in the same conference as Kansas after this season.
