UFC 144 Results: Ben Henderson Will Be a Foot Note on Frankie Edgar's Career
When Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson leave the octagon tonight at UFC 144, this lightweight title fight will be nothing significant on the Answer's career.
Since joining the UFC, Edgar has only dropped one out of his 11 fights—if you count the draw against Gray Maynard at UFC 125 as neither a win nor loss.
On his road to becoming a champion, Edgar has taken down some pretty big fighters—most importantly B.J. in back-to-back wins to claim and defend the UFC Lightweight title.
So while Henderson has been a decent fighter over his career thus far, this fight just won't carry as much weight as his previous bouts did in his quest to become one of the best fighters in the UFC.
Henderson comes into this fight with a lot of potential, winning all three of his fights in the UFC. He has defeated the likes of Mark Bocek, Jim Miller and Clay Guida, but none of those men are anywhere close to the talent that Edgar is.
Guida was perhaps his most difficult opponent, but even that win took Henderson to the limit of three rounds and an unanimous decision.
With Edgar—who has the capability to knock somebody out—it seems like Henderson may be walking into a situation where he is going to be fighting to continue to stick around in the UFC.
This being only his fourth fight with the organization, it is quite an honor to get this opportunity. On the other hand, he is also being put into a spot where he could quickly disappear from the sport with a loss.
Edgar has just proven to be too strong over his career, and he should have no problem handling Henderson on account of his inability to close out mediocre opponents early.
While many had wished that this fight would have been one for the making, it is looking to be just another stepping stone until Edgar gets a fight as big as his bouts with Penn.
