UFC 144 Results: Ryan Bader Will Regret Letting Rampage Enter the Octagon
When Quinton "Rampage" Jackson weighed in at six pounds more than what he was supposed to going into his fight with Ryan Bader, many were afraid that the second listed fight on tonight's UFC 144 fight card could potentially get cancelled.
Bader made the quick decision to continue to go with the fight, but that will be a decision that he will come to regret when it is all said and done.
According to USA Today's Sergio Non, Bader agreed to still fight Rampage despite the weight difference. While doing so, he will also be collecting some extra cash out of Jackson's pocket.
"Bader agreed to the fight on Sunday anyway. In addition to his regular payout, he will receive 20% of Jackson's purse for the failure to make weight.
"I didn't come here to collect some show money and go home," Bader said. "I came here to fight and fight Rampage, so that's what we're going to do.
"
While many will likely commend Bader for his willingness to go on with tonight's fight, he is still the underdog and has put himself in position to lose.
A win over Jackson would be huge for Bader, but he really doesn't stand a chance in this fight. Rampage is a much better fighter—let alone a former champion—while Bader has never been able to stick around with guys like Jon "Bones" Jones or aging veterans like Tito Ortiz.
Jackson is an aging veteran in the sport, but he has still be a force. This will be his first fight since he lost his light-heavyweight championship shot against Jones back in September of 2011.
With so much on the line, Bader was likely in a tough position here.
These guys are supposed to be tough, so six extra pounds shouldn't shy him away from still going with the match.
When the night is over, Bader will feel foolish though letting this fight happen. His only hope following the bout will be if he will lose any footing with the UFC.
