NFL Combine 2012 Results: Mike Adams and the Biggest OL Failures Thus Far

Patrick ClarkeFeb 25, 2012

The NFL scouting combine is in full swing and already we have witnessed a good share of failures and disappointments from some of the participants.

If you're a fan of Wisconsin's Russell Wilson, the measuring process might have been surprising and a little disappointing--at 5'10", Russell was the only quarterback under six feet.

There were also some poor performances in the bench press, where a few offensive lineman stole the show for all the wrong reasons.

Here are some notable failures from the big men at the NFL combine thus far:

Mike Adams, Ohio State, OT

The Buckeyes' enormous offensive lineman measured in at 6'7", which all but guarantees him a solid NFL gig as a starting offensive tackle in 2012.

On the flip side, Adams posted a pathetic 19 reps on the bench press, and ran a 5.40 40-yard-dash. The dash time is not nearly as crippling as Adams' effort on the bench press though.

He has 34-inch long arms, but that means nothing if he lacks the upper body strength to push around 225 pounds of weight.

Markus Zusevics, Iowa, OT

If Mike Adams' bench press display was a failure, than Iowa offensive tackle Markus Zusevics' was the most depressing in recent memory.

Zusevics tore his left pectoral on his sixth rep of 225 pounds, and will now have to miss offensive lineman workouts and leave the combine for surgery.

Marcel Jones, Nebraska, OT

The 320-pounder practically walked the 40-yard dash at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, posting a comical time of 5.63 seconds.

Jones also only managed to get 13 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, which makes Mike Adams look like Hercules.

At 6'6" though, Jones will be coveted at the next level as long as he can avoid stepping in anymore quicksand.
