Iron Sheik as His Crazy Usual Self

T BDJun 5, 2018

The Iron Sheik was recently interviewed by Forbes Magazine; and even in one of the world's most respected magazines, Sheiky was, well, Sheiky!

In recent years, Iron Sheik has flown off the deep end it seems—using profanities, wanting to "humble" fellow former WWE colleagues, having a beef with Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, B Brian Blair, even Kurt Angle. Prior to WrestleMania 17, Sheik (perhaps jokingly) called Kurt Angle a "hometown jabroni" in reference to his 1996 Olympic gold medal win against an Iranian wrestler. "He is hometown jabroni but he is good jabroni."

In famous shoot interviews, Sheik has been known to say that he wants to “make you humble,” as he says.

Sheik is most famous for winning the WWF (at the time) championship in 1983, defeating Bob Backlund with a Camel Clutch, with Arnold Skaaland famously throwing in the towel.

Sheik has always leaned on the side of confusion when it came to his promos in WWE, but he has taken it to a whole new level. It's good to see that even in Forbes Magazine he keeps up the persona, if it is in fact a persona.

When I met Sheik a couple years ago, he was certainly a shell of his former self, despite being extremely entertaining—his arms were far deflated from the muscular tone he possessed in the '80s, and he had trouble walking. Still, fans flock to meet and get a picture with the Iranian heel, who once won the tag team championships with Nikolai Volkoff (random fact: the only time I can recall Nikolai Volkoff finishing the Soviet national anthem without getting completely cut off was at WrestleMania 1, and Sheik was the one who interrupted him at the very end!)
