Michigan Football: 5 Guys Who Need a Great Spring Performance

Austin FoxJun 7, 2018

Spring practice is quickly approaching, and there are plenty of players who could use the extra reps.

Some players just need to bounce back with a good performance, while others need to step up altogether.

Here's a look at five Michigan players that really need to have a good spring, for multiple reasons.

5. Jerald Robinson (RS So.)

1 of 5

Jerald Robinson has never caught a pass in his Michigan career, yet many people think he will be the team's leading receiver in 2012.

He has all the tools, but just hasn't quite put it together yet.

Seeing as how poor the receiving situation is for Michigan, Robinson is actually a huge key to this team.

If he doesn't step up and at least contribute, the passing numbers could be worse than they were last year.

Robinson will be one of the most intriguing players to watch this spring, as his contributions are much needed.

4. Quinton Washington (RS Jr.)

Quinton Washington saw playing time early in 2011, but then saw less and less as the year went on.

Defensive tackle is arguably the thinnest position on Michigan's team, so it is crucial that somebody like Washington step up.

If not, it could force a guy like Ondre Pipkins into the lineup immediately (which may not necessarily be a bad thing.)

With Jibreel Black recently moving to tackle, though, time may be running out for Quinton Washington.

3. Roy Roundtree (RS Sr.)

3 of 5

What in the world happened to Roy Roundtree in 2011? He was just simply nonexistent for most of the year.

This was especially surprising when considering the ridiculous numbers he put up in 2010.

Michigan cannot afford to have him be a non-factor again in 2012. He is simply too crucial to the passing game.

If he doesn't show improvement in spring ball, fans have a right to be extremely worried about the passing game.

2. Craig Roh (Sr.)

4 of 5

Too often did Craig Roh disappear from games in 2011. He is just too talented not to have a significant impact.

Roh is the only returning starter on the defensive line, so he'll need to be the leader of this group.

His performance is crucial to this defense. If he can have a big year, it would help the defensive line tremendously.

If he doesn't play as well as he can, the line will likely struggle.

There is really no reason he can't be a force off the edge, just as he has been at times in the past.

Now a senior (and possible captain candidate), hopefully it will be his time to shine.

1. Will Campbell (Sr.)

5 of 5

Even though it has been said throughout much of his career, it is officially now or never for William Campbell.

A complete bust so far, he could potentially shed that image with a dominant senior season.

Some think that's just what he'll do. Others think he'll continue to underachieve and not be much of a factor again in 2012.

Obviously nobody knows for sure, but it is crucial that he contributes. If he could somehow be a clog in the middle like Mike Martin has been over the past few years, it would help the defense tremendously.

Defensive tackle for Michigan is so weak and thin that it can't afford to have Campbell underachieve yet again.
