NFL Combine 2012: College Stars Who Will Make Scouts Drool

Adam WellsFeb 25, 2012

The prospects taking part in the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend have the ability to do something that all human being strive to do: make someone fall in love with them.

Obviously, this is a different kind of love than what a normal person would be hoping for. This love is about making themselves look so good that no one can pass on them when the draft rolls around at the end of April.

The combine is just a glorified beauty pageant and players know exactly what they must do in order to make scouts fawn all over them. Not all players are created equally—some will stand out more than others.

Here are the studs that will be the talk of the NFL following their combine workout.

Dontari Poe, Defensive Tackle

While defensive ends will be the talk of the first round of the draft, there are a few defensive tackles that are poised to make their presence felt. It all starts with the combine, and one of the players who will be a star is Dontari Poe.

He did not get a lot of attention in college because he played at Memphis, but he is starting to creep up on everyone's radar.

The biggest question he has to answer is, can he be effective in a 3-4 system and handle a lot of attention in the trenches?

In shorts and a t-shirt, he is going to look like a star. He is fast for a 330-pound defensive lineman and has as much strength as anyone. He will be one of the fastest-rising prospects following the workout.

Rueben Randle, Wide Receiver

In a draft loaded with talent at the wide receiver position, Rueben Randle could end up being the best NFL player. He has the size at 6'4", 208 pounds and was very productive in an LSU offense that never had a traditional pocket passer.

Randle's biggest question marks are going to be his speed and ability to consistently catch passes. He is not slow, but he does not have the game-changing acceleration teams want off the line. His hands are solid, though he has been prone to get a case of the dropsies every now and then.

If he can run in the mid-4.4 range and show that he can catch passes from anywhere on the field, he will be one of the first receivers off the board.

Janoris Jenkins, Cornerback

There is no greater question mark in this year's draft class than Jenkins. He would have been a first-round pick if he came out last season, but he didn't and was later dismissed from Florida due to off-field problems.

He went to Division-II North Alabama to play in 2011, and was as good as you would expect an elite FBS player moving down a division to be.

Jenkins will have a lot of questions to answer this weekend, but there is no doubt that he has the talent and physical ability to be a star in the NFL. Teams are going to monitor him closely, so expect his personality to be poked at for as long as the combine goes on.
